Description

Bought this stuff off the shelf in 1985 with two ideas in my head. Best TurnTable I could afford to protect my records and the best speakers I could afford to reproduce the music with accuracy. In the same Price range were Klipch Heresy unfinised pine, Polk Audio's red woofers were $100 less and Bose 901 were $100 more. As Joseph of Arimathia said to Indiana Jones ! You have choosen wisely. All equipment has been maintained to runs at specifications and still sounds so Good today !

    • JBL \\ 240Ti 3 Way Speakers
These JBL 240Ti are a full frequency response 3way loud speaker 37 Hz to 27kHZ flat. With a efficency rating of 89db their rated maxiumum is 300 watts per channel. I hardly push them at all with 130 rms. The Teak cabinets are truly beautiful to behold. Each speaker of this matched pair contains a 14" Woofer, a 5" midrange and a I" Dome Titanium Tweeter. Now if I could find a pair of 250's in teak for the Loft I would be set.
    • Carver Magnetic Field Power Amp XR-130
Carver Magnetic Field Power Amplifier 130 watts @ 8 ohms. Stereo or 260 watts bridged mono
    • JVC QL-Y66F
Quartz Locked Fully Automatic Turntable (1985)Direct Drive bi directional Servo Quartz lock FG Motor
    • Ortofon OM-30 Super
Nice Cartridge originaly had the straight om 30 not the super when I needed a new stylus the difference in price from styli to cartridge and stylus was small
    • Empire EDR.9 Moving Magnet
This Vintage Moving Magnet Cartridge came highly recommended for good reason. Out of the box the EDR.9 delivers sound that is in another class of sound reproduction from the respected Ortofon OM-30 Super that I enjoyed untill now . Cole Porter wrote Night and Day - thats is exactly the difference between these two cartridges. The Empire EDR.9 gives more definition and clarity, opening up a wider and higher soundstage full of more precise detail and lush sounds. This cartridges more than 25 year old design may be the best MM cartridge in its class and it is an understatment to say it is an outstanding value. I have been told this Empire EDR.9 outperforms many MC Cartridges costing 5 times the price paid. I believe it. Rather then adding a phono stage or step up transformer to the audio chain, if you do not have an MC input on your system the MM Empire EDR.9 is a great choice. BTW Although this cartridge was manufactured 3 miles from where I grew up, I had to send to France to find one! Still a bargin, thanks Raul !

Analog Sounds had no problem returning my original cartridge which still sounds CLEAR, Great customer service can be expected. This is my third Maestro V1 from  from Analogue Sounds

Hello folks so it’s been a while. I’ve posted elsewhere that I came back to Audiogon to shop and opened a new account but my customer service agent Tammy found my original account and hooked me up with my old threads and history so Bicycle Joe NYC has gone back to his original secret ID, Groovey spelt with an EY

Did I mention I’ve been shopping?

System still going strong I have upgraded my cartridge to a Clearaudio Maestro Wood

I am very happy with it.

This maybe the best sound reproduction quality I have gotten with this system the Empire EDR 9 for $800 less came very close though.

it's always that last 10% that costs you

Long Time since I posted in a while. In June I bought a new Clearaudio Maestro Moving Magnet Cartrige - the best I've heard on my system. I've been concentrating on playing music live I have bought a lot of instruments and amplifiers

System edited: I added picture of the main room It is Adirondack Rustic with some very comfertable chairs. The huge room has about 1200 sq. feet of open space withe the upstairs open loft bedroms. The sound stage is incredable from the two sweet spots, one is upstairs in the lofts deck, the other is downstairs infront of the fire. The Room is particularly well suited for my JBL Speakers acting as a forth component of the sound.
