Description

I just finished reworking this system (again). Let me know if you have any suggestions or comments.

System edited: Haven't updated in a while, I've changed almost the whole system in the last few months. New denon AH-D7000 and Lorelei speakers most importantly. Also got a new headphone amp, tube preamp, and Audiophilleo converter

an amazingly thick cable, currently being used on the cd player
    • Audio Magic Xstream

Linaeum66, Have you compare Audio Zone AMP-1 with 47lab 25W Gaincard? Can Audio Zone hold on its own? Can you comment on Audio Zone AMP-1? Do they each other sound close? AMP-1 offer a substantial low price, half or 2/3 of the 25 wpc gaincard's cost. I would like to know if there are some compromises done in Audio Zone.
Thanks

System edited: My system has been going through some major changes in the last couple of months. The components in the pictures just weren't doing it for me. Firstly, I had to sell my REL subwoofer due to complaining downstairs neighbors. I can live without the bass for now, but plan on buying a sub from TBI after I move. I also added the HD-600s and JMT amp to power them. In an effort to gain a little more bass to my monitors I added some power conditioning from Audio Magic, and an Audio Zone AMP-1. The AMP-1 made such an impact, it completely transformed the sound (for the better), in almost every way. Last but not least I've been experimenting with different wires, and plan on trying the 47 labs wire kit sometime in the near future. I will be adding some updated pictures in early January after I make some final changes.

I live in about a 150 year old place in Boston, so I can imagine the wiring is not up to par. I did recently get an Audio magic stealth mini power conditioner (I've been meaning to update my online system for a while). I do notice some difference in dynamics and soundstage, and I found it used for $300 so it was definately worth the price. I don't beleive a new one would be though. I also just got an Audio Zone AMP-1.

As far as the Jolida, it is my first "true" high end player. Before this I used a Denon DVD player. Its 20 times better than that, but I don't really have any other means for camparison. I can tell you this, I have no desire to upgrade it. Incredible clarity and very smooth.

Thanks, for the post earlier. First off, are these the granite blocks you were referring too?

Then, I must say those speakers are gorgeous. Right at the top of my list when it comes to looks. Those SEAS drivers top it off though. I have heard them in a few speakers and they always astonish IMO.

You told me that you were student, so I must tell you about my experience with power filtering, as being a student really made things different. I live in a 100 year old fraternity house that has no ground. That means no ground loops/interference. So check out that wiring in your possibly old abode before making a move on a filters.

How does that Jolida compare to other front ends you have hear? I have been looking at getting one. Anyhow, props on what you have thus far - Dan

I would definately look into the Tylers, they are a great bargain especially if you buy a used pair directly from Ty. I picked this pair up for $1700 with stands and lots of options.

I am not one to make Equipment recomendations as what works
for me doesn't for you. What I have found is if you could rearange a little and give your monitors a little more breathing room you would really be surprised. I have found
that placement and a few cheap room tweaks have done way more than equip. I would be interested in your opinion on
your Tyler's as I have considered them strongly for my next
purchase. They are awesome looking but have not heard them.
Anyways good luck
and good listening

Cool. So far that has been my experience with horns/SETs. Though I haven't heard any of the >$5k models.

The SETs were just way to bright for my taste, almost shrill. I had a Decware Zen Select and a pair of Hornshoppe Horns. The lack of bass wasn't really an issue though since I was using the Horns in conjunction with the REL sub.

I wouldn't go for power conditioning because of the expense, but rather dedicated lines for your analog and digital. Seperating the two will give you an audible difference. Though power conditioning will raise your electric to another level, I don't know if you will (considering you're "pushing the envelope") want to spring for the $$, for what quality power conditioning will cost. I'm an Audio Magic fan. Have been extremely happy with their line, but even the Mini Stealths are perhaps a little more than you want to go for. If not, jump in. There's an Audio Magic Stealth for sale on the 'gon for a great price. You can plug your entire system into it.

Good pieces. What didn't you like about the SETs and full range drivers, if I might be so bold to ask? I'm just curious. Lack of deep and/or visceral bass? Too shouty of bright? To revealing? Not enough SPLs? TIA!
