IMHO I don't believe a subwoofer will fix things.
I am thinking being without that rear wall would require speakers that put out good amount bass withou relying on rear wall. Not sure if I am right on that though, but it is common knowledge that speakers depend on the rear wall for bass output to be felt.
Hopefully more experienced audiophilist will chime in, try posting this question on the forum.
