Room dimension are 14x19. The speakers are 6 10 " apart setup in an equalateral triangle.
I have the speakers 3.5 feet from the front and back walls (back wall distance varies depending on where I place my listening chair)
The imaging is solid now I'm currently working on improving overall depth and soundstaging
The room acoustics in this room are quite complicated The room is a difficult layout with lot's of restrictions. GIK Acoustics room treatments have helped to even out the room nodes
but there is still quite a bit of tinkering left
Ideas/suggestions how to further improve the existing layout and performance is welcome !
Hi Kevin Coming over and with your measurement tool I want to test the following if it's ok with you .i'm trying to get the decay of energy more similar from the right to the left speaker. by looking at decay time graphs ETC graphs and being able to drill into one-octave bands of the ETC I can see if the current treatment has addressed most of the issues and work on improving the room further
Let me know when is a good time to give you a shout so we can set this up
I would love for you to swing by My chair is further back then the previous seating arrangement and I have addressed the side reflections The ceiling has also been addresed by placing absorbers at the first reflection points
I may be hearing things but I have some echo on certain tracks this could be slap echo The LF are better in this arrangement just missing a bit of air in the instruments
The dodds are based on feedback of a friend who I trust his ears and has similar musical preferences I also knew there was a good synergy between amp and speaker combination
The Lenco is truly a diamond in the rough those idlers do a lot of things right IMO
Hi Todd Thanks for dropping in ! I listen to vinyl mostly these days and my tuner Jazz and Classical are my favs The Sason's are very true to the source and have amazing neutrality without sounding lean or analytical I enjoy them immensely
Swapping out the tubed monster and replacing it with a plasma definitely helps in soundstage and imaging I need to play a bit more with speaker positioning but what I'm hearing is definitely a step in the right direction
Hi Jim Good to hear from you again Yup the room is the thing and mine is not ..lol The system is sounding really good and quite happy but like everything in this hobby we strive for that extra smidge of added detail/harmonics to reach the unattainable
The tt is amazing best purchase for the least amount of bucks and learned a hell of a lot in the process Those Lenco's are musical as all heck imo
Will update my pictures when the move is completed
Do you prefer the butlers over the dodds now that you have had some time with them ?
Re orientation of the room in progress Will move my speakers/system to the short wall and have the speakers fire longwards The large television is on it's way it and will be replaced with a plasma
ThankS Art for the compliments i'm doing OK - I appreciate you asking Your room and system are in a whole different league baby steps will get me there one day For today I enjoy the rig and enjoy the music
Hi Dan Thanks for stopping by and offering up some suggestions to my room quandries
your idea is a good one ! and i'm sure under different situation this placement would would work very well, but you knew this was coming the "room" acts as our living room area and by moving the speakers to fire along the short wall this leaves little room for the couch and television and makes for a cramped space ..something the family will not go for ...Thanks for trying ..perhaps my next house
Another option is to swing my speakers to the opposite wall this could work quite well. The only drawback is my listening chair would be situated under the lowest part of the ceiling ..and that creates it's own set of issues
I will try to answer your questions above one by one
My speakers are positioned in an equalateral triangle 6'7" measuring from the middle of the speakers My speakers are 4 feet from the front wall as per the manufacturer recommendations the further out the better My listening chair is 4 feet from the back walls
I would love to move the left speaker approx 24 inches as you suggested but that is not possible as there is a diagonal wall in the way that prevents this from being a viable option also my electronics is right next to the left speaker if you look at pictures
Next home perhaps I can really here what these particular Sasons are capable of for the time being I continue to enjoy the music
Any other suggestions taking into consideration the room and it's challenges are very much appreciated
Oregon It's one of JN older designs Back in the day it was one of Jean's show pieces he used to demo I'm using an Ortofon 2m Bronze Thanks for the compliments Pat
Eric How are you I've spoken to you on the phone numerous instances and everyone of your tweaks I've implemented with great results ..I'm waiting on a pair of Alethius power cords to put on my dodds
I'm now concentrating on shoring up my digital needs and considering some pro audio options to get me there i've heard a sample and in comparison to using itunes it's light years ahead
Would love to give you a shout sometime Take Care Pat
I was thinking more along the lines of Dennis Moore new Ultra Fi Dac hooked up to a mac mini Or I could just as easily attach a high end dac to my present cdp ..not sure at this point
It makes a big difference in terms of overall imaging. Without the panel the soundstaging is not precise and all over the place once the panel is put into place the music from the sweet spot snaps into place
GIK Traps are very good and what they do as you can see i'm a huge fan of Glenn's products
In your instance I'm not so sure it will make a dramatic impact as a panel tv does not give off near the same reflections as a tube tv but for what it costs in my opinion is worth a try
