In regards to sourcing, I've come to the conclusion that a music server is where it's truly at. Unfortunately, 'budget-minded' does not come into the conversation. I jumped into the Naim Unity and it is so far beyond any of the very good transports I've owned.
There may be some giant killer I'm unaware of, but I believe you will need to spend around 3K in order to match the quality of your system. Best of luck.
