I agree with you on the sub arrays. I have woofer towers with four 12" servo controlled drivers for each channel, and the bass is the smoothest and tightest I've ever had. I think the multiple drivers at different distances from the floor smooths out the room modes, and allows each driver to do less work and operate with lower distortion.
