New setup. The Bellini preamp was great with the TAD amp. I needed to keep the heat down as I went to an enclosed cabinet. The McCormack is best described as crisp, detailed and open. I like jazz, classical, and occasionally a bit of rock and 80's new wave. As long as the system shines on jazz and classical and is competent on the other types of music, I am a happy man. If anyone has ideas about what I could try for tweaking purposes, let me know.
Circa 1978, I think. A little tweak to the 19hz pot and its locking on in stereo. FM really does stand for free music. NOt as much bass as my Proton 440, but a very pleasing sound. Nice controlled bass.
Canare 4s11
Terminated with Supra spades and Blue Jeans Cable's bannanas.
A totally free improvement would be moving those vandies away from the back wall (like a couple of feet away). And if I remember correctly, vandies aren't shielded, so you're probably going to get some blotches on your tv screen.
Have you considered a tubed pre in your quest to get to that warmer, rounder sound (that's the tubed pre's strong point). Lot's of used, high quality options at a variety of price points.
Nice system- I bet it sounds really musical! Modest- by who's standards? The Rotel amp and preamp look like a very good match to drive the Vandys. I also have the Dynaco tube CD player, but have yet to hear it! It was broken when I bought it, no luck finding parts/ info on the player. If you don't mind me asking, who worked on yours? I'll have to be sure to check back to see the pictures of your system when you get them up.
