For sale is the Sunfire Classic Vacuum Tube Preamplifier. I bought it new from Stereoland in Minneapolis back when they had a store in Minneapolis’ Uptown. I bought it with the Sunfire Architect’s Choice Series II 2 channel amplifier, 325 watts / channel. I am selling both. Why?

They sound great. I love the warm sound. And the amp can drive anything. They connect via XLR. If you buy both I will send the XLR cables for free. But I’ve had both units for about 20 years and am ready for a change. More about the preamp…

I’ve changed the tubes out a few times over its lifetime. The current set is my favorite. They are Matsushita Nationals (see pics). I have two sets of other tubes that I will throw in. They sounded great at the time. But I just wanted to try other tubes. So, I bought the Matsushita’s and felt settled with them.

The preamp does not have the phono board. Back when I played vinyl, I used a Vincent tube phono preamp and that sounded great. But, frankly, I am very happy with my switch to complete digital. The tubes make digital music sound fantastic and I will not go back to vinyl. My DAC feeds into the cd input. Sounds great.

The remote control wore out. It was a very simple 3 function remote: volume, mute, power. I replaced it with a universal remote, which I will also throw in with the purchase. I do not have a picture. It is not photogenic. It is the standard universal remote with lots of buttons that you don’t need. But it works better than the original ever did.

There are a few marks / scuffs along the side. They are obvious in close up well lit photography with the unit pulled out from the system. But, frankly, I was surprised to see any. They are not going to be visible in any normal set up. The face plate is pristine. You can see how the system is set up currently in the pics. You cannot see any scuffs as the unit presents within the system.

I have the original manual but not the box. I will have it double boxed.

Please note that I am paying shipping via FedEx. This cost is factored into the price.
