The main inherent advantage of the full-range electrostatic loud speaker system is that it allows a single diaphragm to embody the conflicting attributes needed for optimal performance at both extremes of the audio range. Its thin-membrane diaphragm can be made exceedingly light, for superb transient response and extended HF response, yet it can be about as large in area as desired, for extended LF response. And since that diaphragm is driven uniformly over its entire surface, instead of from a small voice-coil, it circumvents the inherent problem of dynamic speakers in requiring that a large area be driven from a small area (the central voice-coil). The electrostatic’ s diaphragm does not require the element of rigidity in order to move uniformly over its entire surface. And because the same diaphragm handles both bass and treble, the electrostatic does not need a crossover, with its inherent phasing and audible discontinuity problems.

Electrostats are much more complex to design and build than any other speaker technology, as much an art as science; ensuring even distribution of the bias charge on the diaphragm, precisely maintaining the spacing of the stators to provide maximal and evenly distributed electrical forces on the diaphragm, insulating the diaphragm and stators to prevent “arcing” or other high-voltage breakdowns are solved through patented innovations.

The Model 12 at 70 inches tall is a Model 15 for shorter ceilings @ only 37 lb extending down to 48 Hz!

Final made major improvements in electrostatic loudspeaker technology through several innovations.

Final speakers use a thin, Teonex PEN Film that's LIGHTER THAN MYLAR as the speaker diaphragm, an extremely durable aerospace material that is insensitive to UV radiation and using a proprietary technique, the conductive layer is embedded deep in the membrane rather than applied to the surface. This improves performance by virtually eliminating the distortion created by traditional electrostatic speakers that apply the delicate conductive coating to the top of the diaphragm. In addition to improving performance, the embedded design protects against scratches, stable to humidity, dust, smoke, UV radiation and severe temperature extremes, making it virtually indestructible.
Tests at Final show that a 2012 production unit did not show any kind of degradation. It is therefore no longer necessary to have a membrane replaced every 6-10 years, common with traditional electrostats!
When the panels are not used for a short period, their power supply automatically turns off and turns back on as soon as an audio signal arrives at the speaker terminals. This way, the membrane attracts less dust and is more durable over time.

Lightweight, ultra-thin design, wall mountable
Final’s patented technology has revolutionized the high-performance audio marketplace by separating the speaker panel from the bulky driver electronics.
