AMPEX 350 & Preamp - MINT Restoration

For sale is a fully restored AMPEX 350 Reel-to-Reel transport player and pro-studio tape head preamp.  This 350R is a fully restored 1957 model in a stereo configuration playing through a professional studio tape head preamplifier from the Inovonics Broadcast company.  This ground up restored AMPEX 350R is configured with a 2-Track tape head with a lot of playing life remaining and is calibrated to play 10.5” and 7” tape reels at 15ips or 7.5ips.  The transport is fitted in a custom solid wood cabinet design to house the player and the professional grade electronics that are part of the total system.  The tape head preamplifier is an Inovonics Model 376, a studio product designed for the AMPEX 350.

As you will find, unrestored barn finds of the 350 transport alone sell for $3k or more in non-working condition, and the same goes for a tape head preamp like the Model 376 starting you at more than $5k for a non-functioning version of this combination.  What is being offered is a like new condition of the AMPEX 350, completely restored both in and out to give you many years of reliable operation.  

This custom restoration is a dual-channel setup for professional applications demanding uncompromising performance and reliability.  It features a low noise design utilizing an optimum combination of IC and discreet circuitry.  The output electronics can accommodate 3-Speed equalization with wide adjustment range for any combination of NAB and IEC characteristics, at speeds from 3-3/4 to 30ips, and as mentioned the system is set at 15ips and 7.5ips.  To support professional studio options, the system does have phase compensation adjustments for each channel, as well as Low frequency, high frequency and gain adjustments for each channel.

We currently have this system in on consignment from a long time Audiophile client who needs to downsize due to lifestyle changes.  At this time we are open to market offers to present to our client from people who understand the value of this fully restored studio-grade system comprised of the world famous AMPEX 350 and the renowned Inovonics Model 376 tape head preamplifier.
