To some, Townshend Audio is known as the maker of the innovative Rock turntable with its front-end dampening ‘Trough’. To others, it’s the company behind the famous Glastonbury loudspeaker. Modern listeners are more likely to think of Townshend Audio in terms of its vibration isolation devices, Maximum Supertweeters, Allegri Autotransformer-coupled preamplifiers, or the unique Fractal ™treated and impedance-matched cable range.
Max Townshend Audio has been designing innovative products for the last five decades, many of which are the sort of 'why didn't I think of that?' ideas that it takes someone with a spot of true left-field genius to create.
Our founder Max Townshend, born and raised in Australia, brought genuine passion, enthusiasm and good old-fashioned 'Bush engineering' and scientific knowledge to the HiFi table, leaving a legacy feast of indispensable audio upgrades, each one specifically engineered to deliver sound reproduction as close as possible to what the artist hears in the studio or on stage.
Townshend's presence here now on Audiogon, headed up by super audio enthusiast, guru and collector John Hannant, has allowed us to connect with so many passionate audio enthusiasts in the US and around the globe who may not have picked up on Max's body of work over the last 45 years.
A few words from John Hannant:
"I have loved music from a very young age and have been building various systems for over 35 - 40 years. With seven beautiful Children, funds must be carefully and cleverly spent, and I feel thrilled with my current system. Seismic Isolation has been paramount to achieving the best possible sound in my somewhat challenging room. I just replaced the 2 x REL S/812's with 1 REL Studio lll and 1 REL Studio ll absolutely incredible subwoofers for music! For best performance, I found Isolating the Rel' Subs from the floor was paramount for the best Bass performance.
