This is my first reference system, not the very first I put together, but the first one that gave the basics of air, timbre, the soundfield…the very first time the understanding of what it was truly all about hit me. The ProAcs replaced a Larsen6.2 which was originally mated with a Cary Audio 300SEi, PSAudio P3, and Ansuz P2 speaker cables. The replacement setup was my introduction to everything I didn't know music could be, and also everything I quickly found was missing in what true resolution could mean.
Of note is the fact of sound quality being considerably better with the integrated being taken off its pre, and fed directly from the Hegel DAC for volume control. The improvement to every part of the sound chain takes a threefold leap, with the yardsticks of human voice and piano realism delivered at very high levels.
This system was assembled without any effort by way of room corrections or tweaks other than speaker isolation - the objective was to gauge how close to good sound quality I could get without the benefits gained from better cable isolation, cleaner power draw, and the rest of it.
So kind of you to say so, toro ; ) - the amp is actually sitting on the same half inch steel L that the credenza is sitting on - I designed the fixture for this first system without actually knowing how deep i’d get into audiophilism. The second system is vertically stacked, for the best way to coupled and isolate - cables, equipment, shelving, everything.
What a great picture. Love the look of that Line Magnetic seated perfectly next to the credenza. I could easily waste a weekend listening to music in an environment like that.
