Description

This is the best that I can afford and am willing to put into a system. The only component I bought used was the subwoofer which is in horrific cosmetic condition but otherwise works like a charm. This system is in the ballpark of 2000$ and was the labor of many newbie failures which is why 95% of it is all new products. I actually own another set of speakers and gave another away, I have 2 vintage dual 1019 turntables and a headphone amp I was told would make a good preamp for my phono stage... live and learn.

Future plans for this set up will be to go with a better turntable eventually, perhaps sending one of the dual 1019's to be refurbished. I will also be testing different tubes out and I will eventually try a different stylus. All in time $$$.

Overall I have not ever owned anything this nice, growing up I always bought shelf stereos with my allowance and I guess I've unknowingly been a bit of an audiophile since I was very young. People get upset when I say I'm 75% music lover and 25% audiophile but for me at the end of the day it is about the music and if you love the music enough you are willing to fork out a little more to make that experience as best as you can so please don't take offense to my opinion.

The two most noticable improvements in my sound quality on this particular set up have been the addition of the stav 24 stands and putting a rug in front of the speakers.

This system sits in my bedroom which is 15x15 and has horrible dynamics for sound quality, the bass rattles the doors and the wood floors cause a bit of echo. A future plan is to do a small amount of sound treatment to the room, the upside is the oldschool acoustic ceiling. Still even with the room not fully on par this system destroys anything I've ever owned and with the small amount of audiophiles I've met, I have only met one who has a nice setup that I actually got to listen to.

I will try to include a link to a video of this system in action.

Thank you for stopping by.

Agreed, I'm a musician and putting an affordable system together that doesn't make my records sound like crap is what I want. There's a lot of really good affordable gear out there.

Superb budget tube system you must be proud of.

I'm glad you are enjoying your system. My previous speakers in my main room were also B&W bookshelf speakers which were wonderful!
I agree with you that your next upgrades should be room treatments and then an upgraded turntable/cartridge.
I've heard quite a few square rooms sound good but do require acoustical treatments. I would start with tube traps in the corners behind the speakers.
ASC are wonderful, sometimes you can find them used on ebay.
Your next turntable should also have an arm where you can adjust the VTA and azimuth of the cartridge, this makes a huge difference?
Enjoy the journey!

Nice and well put together. Have you tried pulling the speakers out about 3-4 feet into the room? It'll improve imagining.
