Description

Updated 7/24.
I changed speaker cables to Matthew Bond Audio GSC 36. I had been using Silver Smith Audio Fideliums (ribbon cables) which I found sonically to be very good, particularly for the price, but difficult to connect well (no lugs or bananas - just a spot of bare ribbon), particularly with their matching jumpers. It’s a very unique system and the value is off the charts, but I did find it was better by Nordost Valhalla 2s which I was about to buy when I came across MBA. I had a few discussions with Matthew and the tech he’s employing and thought it worth an audition. His cables are impressive - very open and resolving, and the most natural sounding speaker cables I’ve auditioned.  I can comfortably say they’re the best I’ve heard.

Components Toggle details

    • Sonus Faber Serafino Tradition
    • Matthew Bond Audio GSC 36 speaker cable
Braided ribbon cables with spade lugs and matching jumpers
    • T+A Elektroakustik PA 3100 HV
    Integrated amplifier.
    • T+A Elektroakustik DAC200
    • Auralic Aries G2
    Streamer/Server
    • Auralic Sirius G2.1
Upsampling processor - connected via Auralic’s lightning link
    • Nordost Valhalla 2
    Balanced interconnect
    • Nordost Valhalla 2 (3) and Odin 1 (1)
    (4) A/C cables. Odin 1 supplies the T+A integrated amp and the 3 Valhalla pcs supply the Auralic gear.
    • Nordost QB8 MK III
    A/C distribution
    • Nordost Tyr 2 Power cord (Norse) Second Generation
20A feeding the Qbase MK III
    • AudioQuest Firebird HDMI
My Auralic gear is best connected with their proprietary Lightning Link which allows the pieces to share resources and talk to each other. It’s a noticeable improvement over USB or any of the spdif connections - all of which i tried.  Lightning link communicates over hdmi cable - no video.

I was using the stock cables for this digital connection but had this cable laying around.  I was astonished at the improvement over the stock cable (digital “bits are bits” orthodoxy is now blown up).

Nice looks simple and well thought out - especially since you are using the Auralic Sirius to feed the T+A DAC. That is my guess. Always liked the looks on Sonus Faber speakers. Hope you have a ton of fun with the music. And thanks for sharing the pics.
