Description

Room could use a bit more "treatment". Moonbeam sound damping curtains are surprisingly effective in reducing "slap echo", improving overall response, and imaging.

Components Toggle details

    • DSPeaker 2.0
Signal from DSpeaker, is fed to Bryston 10B sub electronic x-over (set 70hz@18db), mid-bass to H3 woofers, < 70hz to bass cubes
DSPeaker corrects phase and integrates bass cubes with H3 woofers, plus room correction.
Results verified/cross checked manually with ARTA, and REW
    • McCormack DNA 125 Platinum 350hz and up
Platinum upgrades by SMC, including upgraded Plitron transformer, and Jupiter bypass caps. Freshened up by SMC in 2016.
Full range signal fed directly from DS2 to McCormack, which then feeds the modified H3's redesigned passive crossover.
Best SS I've owned. I would prefer to use my tube amp for mid-highs, but large room + low 2.7 ohm dip in H3 impedance prevents it's use. Just not enough current output for decent volume at that impedance.
    • Conrad Johnson MF-2500A low frequencies 20hz - 70hz
Originally intended for mid-highs, very detailed, but a bit sterile for me. Tremendous control and power in the bass though. So now powers the bass cubes.
    • Parasound 2250 v.2 mid-bass 70hz - 350hz
Replaces a Belles 350a I had at that position. Belles went into full "arc welder" mode one day, and literally flamed out.
Surprisingly, the Parasound has somewhat better midbass tone than the Belles.
    • Monarchy Audio M24
    R2R 2x BB PCM63K
    Tung Sol BGRP 6SU7GTY's
    or
AMR DP-777SE (though rarely used, nice in NOS mode)
"also rans", that didn't do it for me, Schiit Yggdrasil, Holo Spring L3, Audio GD M7, SFD 2 MKII, SFD 1 MKII, Monarchy NM24 (1704 chip vs the M24's PCM63's).
I really liked my Theta Gen Va, but it eventually died.
    • Bryston 10B Sub
Signal to Bryston fed from DSPeaker 2.0, Bryston crossover point set at 70hz@18db slope
    >70hz to H3 woofers
    <70hz to bass cubes
    • Don Sachs DS2 w/HT bypass
    Outputs;
     A to McCormack
     B to DSPeaker
    • Sota Star Sapphire
SME IV arm, Hana SL cart, Phenomena II+ phono pre with LPS.
    • Sony X7ESD as cd transport
Great as transport. Better sounding as transport (IMHO) than, Oppo (95/203/205), SF SFT-1, Teac VRDS-25, Denon, or Cary. All of which I tried.
    • Bluesound Node 2i streamer
    • Tyler Acoustics Highland H3 speakers
Completely redesigned crossovers. Originals were, simply put, terrible. Extremely low impedance, no roll off of mids, desperately needed a notch filter on tweeter resonance.
New crossovers work VERY well. Excellent drivers can now really sing.
    Sound City outriggers
    1.5 degree rearward tilt
    Previously, Revel F208's, Spatial M3TM's, Lynn Olson's Ariel/ME2's
    • DIY Bass cabs 2ea, containing 2ea Peerless 830500 12"
    • Oppo UDP- 205
    • Carver Cinema 11a
For HT, and SACD/DVD-A, via HDMI
    • McCormack HT-5
    Amp, Center and surround channels

Nice system!  I envy your large, naturally lit room.

Really interesting looking system with some cool old school stuff thanks for sharing!

A really great system with a lot of classic equipment. It looks like it has a lot of power and drive. I'll bet your speakers play effortlessly. I've only had medium powered systems, and wondering what's it like listening to music on a system like yours. Impressive!
