Whitecap here, my name is John. So, your OP hit on several of my recent experiences, and I didn't want to be that guy that hijacks the thread. And I also don't want to appear to down talk some great gear that we both own. But here goes: the, most significant transformation in my systems in the past five+ years (maybe ever) has been moving up the REL line. The Carbon Special (and Nos. 31 and 32) have a different driver that is, well, you be the judge. I have run JLs, and others. And for the past three years we mated Tannoy Kingdom Royal Carbon Black with a pair of S812. In a different system we run a pair of 212/SX (with Tannoy Arden with Supertweets). All great subs, to be sure. Rock the house. But then, enter Carbon Black. Whole different thing. Been playing this game a long time and thought I had heard true bass. Wrong.
thanks guys, i am such a huge fan of PS Audio and it does make life a lot simpler as i really do not look at other brands anymore. They work together so well and have been a great match for my Thiel 2.7's and now the 3.7's. I think the only other line that might be competitive in the sense of having a full range of gear that is not over the top expensive, would be Bryston.
Pretty damn awesome. I like the fact that you chose PS Audio components throughout; I had so many combinations of pre and amp brands that I could never truly discern why I didn’t like things sometimes. Great setup.
