I have been designing this media room and waiting for years to finally build my custom home with this room. I am a General and Electrical Contractor and did everything in this room personally, from electric to paint. The room has amazed all that have seen and heard it, including, of course, myself. A dream room that finally came true. The equipment is on custom drawers that allow for easy change of tubes, etc. The closet behind the equipment has all the wiring from the audio and video equipment. The 100A panel and TV/Telephone main panel is in that room as well.We are including displays of Lord of the Rings, our favorite movies, and Mardi Gras, which we attended in 2004. The back of the room has a wet bar with Unibroue medallions, our favorite beer, and a jazz rug covering the windows required by the building code. The Japanese piece above the center channel is 20+ years old from my Grand Aunt. The grey theater seating is from a closing theater in Duluth, MN and raised 8" above the floor for viewing. The room is 15.5' x 33' with 2x6 walls and soundproof insulation. The doors are exterior-air tight-insulated for soundproofing. The infinite baffle in-floor subs simply cannot be beat for theater, vibration and sound quality all in one, outstanding.
Wadia i170 direct into DAC 3 using volume control directly to Class D amps in owner made enclosures
N H T T6
Separate upper and lower cabinets with electronic crossover going into Class D 500wx4 to power each upper and lower section.
Class D 500w x 2
Each amp has 500w x 2 driving each upper and lower section of the T6 speakers. I hand made the enclosures which feature Walnut front plates to match floor, acrylic covers to view components.
Siemens 100 Amp Sub Panel
A separate 100 amp sub panel in media room closet for audio system. All 20 amp hospital grade outlets for entire system. All components on separate 20 amp circuits.
Boston Acoustics AVR1
The only receiver ever made by BA, I think. Huge toroidal transformer and tons of features. Handle the center and rear channels, as well as all the theater processing.
Infinite Baffle 15x4 Mackie 1400 amps
IB subs rule, period. I have 2 baffles in the floor with 2x15
DBX DriveRack PA
Electronic 3-way full range crossover responsible for the upper T6, lower T6 subs, and infinite baffle subs in the floor. Excellent piece.
Oppo BDP 80
Excellent Bluray player that mates well with my Mitsubishi 1080p projector on the 110" motorized screen, Directv HD receiver on top
System edited: Upgrades all over, real nice for music and movies. The infinite baffle subs are the best I have heard, difinitely took a risk cutting into the floor, but would do it again and will in the next home.
I argee with Zapper, this is for Jg47,"there is no Stupid question buddy--- A stupid person is when he doesn't ask". We all here in Gon wanted to learn and get ideas, opinions from others and you need to update your knowledge with our technology now day. This is the 21st century not an Ice Age. My best advise to you is "Learn from someone who had an experience with their own system. Obtain their nice set up, ideas from our members to improve your own systems". Nice set up, best listening to all.
Jg47 the remotes DO NOT go through the screen, so an extender behind the window curtains transmits to another behind the wall and relays to the equipment. The UF signal goes through the wall, which strange enough the DSS receiver remote does have. I have a programmed Pronto controlling all equipment, screen, projector, and main recessed lights. No question is stupid.
For those who like form over function, the carpet would not be a good idea in the middle of our dance floor, for those who know how. Music isn't just a listening experience.
Zapper, excellent effort! Nice move, putting components behind screen. You were thinking. When I had a larger wood floor, a generous sized area rug helped with reflections. You should consider some room tuning too; it makes as much difference as changing components, sometimes more.
