Description

This has been a hobby for about 20 years.

I have recently moved and this is how my new hobby room looks.

Im having imageing problems with this room. The image is a bit flat. The room also sucks up alot of bass energy. Before I did not need to use the XS Sub for 2 channel music. Now I need to use the sub for music as well as movies.

As you can see the right speaker is too close to the XS subwoofer.(Room constraints make this the only location for the sub.. Room is 5.5 meters wide, 2.7 meters high and 6.5 meters long)

Any Ideas for better imageing and bass?

Go to the Realtraps website. Basically you need to put traps in the corners and 1st reflection points. Then you can increase the amount of traps from there. Beside the look (not so great) the Realtraps did wonders in my system as of recent. I am ordering more. They might not look great, but. the finish & construction is 1st rate and is rated for fire etc. Wall to wall corners and ceiling to wall corners etc. The traping absorbs bass, but really it improves the impact of the bass by removing the "muddiness". Wilsons for me are setup based on freeing up the bass from the room. Adding an additional subwoofer will help tremendously.

Dear Glenhifi,
The No. 33s are connected to the X 1 s2, No.336 to Watch center and XS and No.333 to Watch surrounds.
Sometimes I switch to a all Mcintosh system, Mc 1201 to X 1, Mc 500 to center and XS and Mc 2500 to Watch surrounds.

Dear Argyro,
The crossover is set at 2 oclock. I believe it is the volume control on the crossover that can be set and not the cut off frequency. Thanks for your suggestion.

Dear Mapman,
This room needs the help of the XS to make the bass sound full. I will have to take Dgad's advice and get some bass tuning done.

Dear Dgad,
Thanks for your comments, if I move the speakers out from the wall the image gets better at the expense of the bass. Since I love bass I have to set it up like this for maximum bass.
Can you suggest some websites which will help me with my problem?
Thanks

The flat image is due to the speakers being too far back in all probability. The weak bass is a function of probably "poor" bass. This is due to room dimensions & room nodes. You need to treat the room for bass only. This should make a huge improvement. I know in my room bass trapping improved the bass beyond my wildest expections.

How's the bass on that system?

Very nice!

mapman

Great system my friend!

What is the cut off frequency of the subwoofer?

I would suggest you keep it below 40-45Hz.

Happy Listening,

Mike

WOW! Your comments on how you hook up your speakers to what amps would be interesting.

Thanks for your input. If I move the speakers into the room the bass becomes weaker.

Nice choice of gear. I like your subwoofer position. Have you tried the speakers further out into the room?
