great setup How do you like the sound of the Dared Set? I have been looking at these. What other amps have you owned to compare with them? Does the system play volume levels your are happy with? I bet it sounds good
You really havn't heard what your amps can do 'till you try them with horns. The Klipsch speakers can be found, and are a cheap way to try high efficiency speakers. If you don't mind a slightly (really less than you might think) colored midrange, the Heresys or Cornwalls are great. Less colored (due to the tractrix midrange,) but slightly lower quality (ceramic magnets, cheaper crossovers) are the Forte II, and Chorus II. Bass and dynamics with these systems are way better than direct radiators, which to me all sound thick and slow by comparison. Least ye think me out of touch, know that as a classical musician I hear live music much more than I hear canned. Just an idea.
Meech have you tried the tweaking suggestoed for the Monster? Would like to share some findings I got on vibration contol... If interested e-mail me Luis
My system has changed significantly with the addition of my ne Singlepower Maestro headphone/pre amp. This has totally taken the system to the next level. Much more spacious presentation than the Dared and certainly more detail. It's also a little smoother which is always nice on the ears. I'll post pics soon.
this might sound strange,Im a web offset printer and we use tinsel to control static related problems on paper, just hang it near the moving web of paper and static gos away, anyway last winter I was getting static on my LPs so I placed tinsel around my TT close but not touching LPs and static all but went away, sorry but Xmas tree made me think of this,, by the way real nice starter system you have.
Meech33 What about some accoustic treatment. It seems you have a small room, I did for two years one. First point wall reflections are a must to treat in order to get better sound. I guess the photo was taken from your listening position right? Do you close the curtains for listening? I'd suggest to tweak the system using footers and/or vibration dampers. I also have the HTS 2000, try using some footers under it you might be surprised.
I've been looking at picking up one of those Christmas Tree Acoustic Enhancers. How have you found it's improved your sound? I've heard they really enhance the transparency of the room and cut back on excess noise from less-than-optimal cables.
Unfortunately, I don't have anything to rate the Dared's against. They are actually my first pieces of tubed equipment. I really like the sound. I have never heard such sweet midrange in my life. I'm sure there's a lot better out there but being that I'm coming from solid state, it's a major step up. I do wish they hade a little more power though. My speakers are only 94db, which isn't bad but it's not great either. I think SET amps were made for horns.
