Description

When designing this room, I wanted excellent quality (video and audio) but I did not want to spend exuberant amounts of money or make the set-up too complex with separate components, power supplies, etc. and the unsatisfying need to constantly upgrade. I achieved my objective.

The TV, an Elite 70 LCD TV is really good with the darkest black background I’ve seen, with sharp vibrant natural colors, one of the best TV’s you could buy at the time. The speakers, on a budget, just buy these. I’ve heard a lot of great reviews about these speakers (Montana SP3) and had to give them a try, they do not disappoint. They produce music crystal clear and articulate with no harshness. They throw a large, deep sound stage and just disappear. For the price, it’s a no brainer. The fit and finish is what you would expect from a speaker costing well into the 5 figures. The Amp is a Cambridge 640R which is very musical. Video is done via an Oppo BDP-93 and music is produced via an Apple Mac Mini running Amarra software and AudioQuest Cables/Dragonfly DAC.

I wanted a simple home theater system that satisfies the most discerning viewer/listener but is not complex or costs a fortune. I am completely satisfied with it. I’ve hear systems that cost ridiculous about of money, and this system gets you close enough where you’re captured by it and caught in the moment and not desiring more as you view/listen.

    • Elite PRO70X5FD
    70 Inch LCD HDTV

Awesome TV; dark black background with sharp vibrant natural colors and very fast; best I’ve seen.

People who watch are stunned by its picture quality.
    • Montana Loudspeakers, a Division of PBN Audio, LLC SP3
7 Inch Mid-Woofers and 1 Inch Fabric-Dome Ring Radiator Tweeter

These are a “Classic Speakers” from PBN, but they still will make them while components last. I added upgraded cross-overs and raised the speakers about 5” to fit my ear level. PBN will make them custom for you and have a wide range of custom colors.

These speakers produce music crystal clear and articulate with no harshness. They throw a large, deep sound stage and just disappear. I’ve heard cost no-object speakers and these come ridiculously close for a fraction of the money. I would like to add a JL Audio Sub to this to get true audiophile performance.
    • Cambridge 640R
Power and Musicality; This Amp does the multi-channel sound you need, but where it shines is musicality. This amp thinks it is an audiophile performer, powerful, warm, expansive, detail, and natural sounding. Awesome!!
    • Velodyne VA-1012
Bought this sub 15 years ago; has a 10” woofer with 12” passive radiator and 100 watts.

Shakes the room for movies and gives body to music, but needs to be faster and more tuneful to keep up with the system.
    • Oppo BDP-93
    Blu-ray Disc Player

    Excellent quality.
    • AudioQuest DragonFly
    USB 24-bit/96kHz DAC
    • Apple Mac Mini
Very versatile, use it as my music server. Have my entire music collection on it with loss-less format. Running Amarra software it works well. Plus you have all the video and internet features for parties

Be hard to find a better looking system, just beautiful!
What kind of rack is that??

Thanks for the kind words (Samac and Schubert).

The rack is a Salamander AV Rack (SDAV2 7224) which retails for $1,200. I am really happy with it. It’s clean, well built, and well thought out (wires, ventilation, etc.). The real selling points was with a 70” TV, I needed a wide rack (72" W x 24" H x 20" D). Also the depth had to hold my components and the height needed to place the center of my TV at eye level. This rack did all of the above. Good price considering the above.

Thanks David, I think I'll buy one, a bargain in today’s market.
