Charles, it took a long time to get here. Change after change produced more refinement and I learned so much as to what produces sound from a preamp. The original preamp built by my partner was the best but they don't make the same parts anymore so we wanted to use parts we could source to make something that maybe one day we will sell commercially. The output transformers we make ourselves and the chokes are outsourced to our specifications. They both made a big difference along with adding the second stage of 3A5 tubes and tube regulation which make the noise unmeasurable.

The Volume control is a transformer type so no resistors, more clarity, resolution, etc. I was using the continental caps but after Alta Vista Audio stopped, Parts Connexion dropped them, funny how Chris Johnson told me he did not know who made them or where he got them from. I found that very interesting. As for the filtering caps, the custom chokes make the difference not so much the caps. Being a DHT, there is not much need to use a cap to get additional resolution or bass articulation. With no caps in the signal path to screw up the sound, the preamp really separates the sound stage with clarity that most have not heard before. The preamp pictured is an old picture (I just changed it). It now has both tube regulation and tube rectification so almost no AC noise or I cannot measure it anyway. All direct heated triode design with customer would transformers.

I see you use those Clarity TC caps for filtering as well as the ASC or GE oilers. Nice choices. I prefer the GE as they are more resolving and more articulate in the bass while maintaining musicality.
What type of Attenuator are you using on the preamp? I assume a nice stepped?
