Very Nice system, I have a similar type system, two DD15 Velodyne Subs Amati Homage Speakers, Pass XA 100.5 mono blocks and a Modwright tubed preamp, I would love to hear your system I bet it's Amazing, enjoy!
I dig those speakers. I just heard some Sonus Fabers out at the McIntosh factory and they blew my mind. I heard the flagship and the Olympia III's. Both were amazing. May get some in the future.
Awesome speakers. I'm a big fan of Sonus Faber (I own the Evolution monitors). I also used to own the XA160 amps. Boy did they get hot but the sound was very sweet indeed! Did you find it difficult to integrate the subs? I am considering adding a Rel S2 to my system.
"What is interesting is that I don't listen to CD anymore ... Hmmm...." I am also enjoying vinyl more and more. Each record seems to have a unique character (not just the occasional click/pop). By comparison most CD's seem sterile and lifeless. CD's are still great for the ease of use, say during a party for example.
And yes the Macinthosh/Quad system was great. I had the 2905s with c500 and 2x 275 mk5. I had the c2300 before and tried many Mc amps at home thx to my great local audio dealer Graham. There were a few tube amps that I really did like, but I either had fantastic bass with solid state or magical midrange with tubes( I know I oversimplify). Their hybrids didn't convince me. Then Graham had a nice trade in, SF Guarneri evolution, I couldn't resist and another journey begun like 3 years ago. A sub, then better electronics followed.
Thx for your comments. Yes, I still do have the Nott but upgraded the arm. Was going for the SME312s but Brian Hartsell finally sold me the AMG arm. So I couldn't compare this arm with the sme it is much better than the Nott arm (IMHO); you get what you pay for. It gave me eg more bass and just more detail. The Nott was good for the money too, I like the Nott combi better than the VPI classic 1 with 3 arm, for what it's worth. What is interesting is that I don't listen to CD anymore ... Hmmm.... The subs run very low (30hz, 9-11 volume). Well, then sometimes we have little party, dance and the subs suffer... Did I find perfect bass? Well, well. Acoustic bass yes, not punchy but real/live. Am I missing the punch sometimes. Yes. That is why my speaker cables are on sales now. I have Tara labs 0.8 and the omega series is better - and much more expensive. Never ending story? :-)
