I heard the Melody room at RMAF and was so impressed I bought the integrated, with basically no place at home to put it. Fortunately, someone suggested my office as a potential perch. My relatively modest purchase grew quickly and exponentially into the system you now see before you.
The sound, with everything cold and totally unbroken in, is breathtaking. It makes work a much better place to be... :-)
SET Integrated - 22W/Channel, pure Class A, from Australia. Point-to-point wiring, hand-wired transformers, 93lbs. Rich, sweet sound and clear, open sound stage. Really impressive.
Esoteric K-03
CD/SACD/DAC player. Lots of awards. Usable as a DAC for computer audio as well. Great transport as well as famous Esoteric build quality.
Lawrence Audio Violins (W/stands)
Detailed and dynamic with surprisingly good bass extension.
I put Hi Diamond p-3 power cords everywhere and it took system performance up a few notches, quite audibly. Imaging is just ridiculous - speakers are efficient and fit the system perfectly. Wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't heard it. A good example of how really good a simple system can sound if its put together well.
A lot of credit for this goes to Hugh Nguyen of Angel City Audio in Cali, as he facilitated my pretty-much copying one of his rooms at the 2012 RMAF. They are his speakers and he is the US distributor for the Melody SET gear. I added a few of my own upgrades, like the Esoteric K-03 and PS Audio P-10 regenerator, taking a really good system to another level. Work is more fun and my clients so far really like the music - not a bad thing to expose them to what a good system is supposed to sound like, I guess.. :-)
Always! Love the Esoteric gear....the Elrod and Kubala cabling took everything to another level for me. It's amazing what comes out every time I hit play!
Thanks D. I literally couldn't have done it without you. :-) Congrats on your new PS Audio piece - it should work well for you.
Zephyr - thank you. Just a simple system that I can experiment with. Your system is very nice as well - there's just something about the Esoteric gear that just sounds "right", as you have also discovered. Enjoy!!
Many would be happy to have this 2nd office system as their primary system, well done! This is a great combination of gear that no doubt sounds amazing! It makes work worthwhile :-)
Thank you for the kind words. I had already heard the sc's in another system so had a pretty good idea what to expect. They outperform cables costing more than twice the price. Get the Planus II if you can.
very nice system.I purchased also 2 IC's from MG and to my ears those are great cables. Did you compare their speaker cable with various other cables ? I have curently a Kimber 3033 SC which i like very much but thought i might try the MG planus SC [i'm from Israel so the 30days return option do cost me some dough].
