Have you tried the Accuphase pre driving the power section of the 500? I assume this is possible as it is on my NuVista M3; not mentioned in the manual but as they use RCA jumpers to connect the sections it is easy to do. I have the 33EV; never been able to find out exactly how it differs from the PGT. Take a look at the Sole sub chassis for the Linn if you don't have a Keel or intend to get one; very good performance for a fraction of the cost. They have a good armboard also.
It's always interesting to see how A'goners get the best sound from their components. You've done a great job. I'm sure the Accuphase/Harbeth combination is wonderful. Thanks for the information. Cheers!
I move the sources around a bit, but tend to stick the amp and speaker combinations together.
I use the Thiels with the MF kW500, as they need the current/power.
The Accuphase power goes well with the Harbeths, driven by the Sony TA-ER1, the most transparent pre-amp I've ever heard. I use the Harbeths for close monitoring and easy listening. If I need a more dynamic and larger scale sound, then its the Thiel based system.
The SF Line 1 is used for video sources, to tame the sound before it goes to the main amps. I have a Sony TA-DA5400ES AV amp that I use for home theater.
The Sony SACD sound is no match for the LP12/Lingo/Linto combo, as well as the Esoteric P-70/D-70 combo.
The Esoteric combo can match the sound of the Linn LP system, in terms of dynamics and realism.
I've a VTL tube 70wpc power amp but it can't handle the power needed for most of my listening. I've sold a Rogue Audio Magnum 99 pre-amp recently with the acquisition of a Accuphase C-270V pre-amp. J
You have some great components listed. Can't tell how you have it all connected. Two Systems? Which components? Tube with Analog? SS with Digital? A mix? Would love to see some inclusive pictures. Just purchased Harbeth SHL-5's for my McIntosh SS components and very satisfied. How do you like your Harbeth's?
