Yes I know the pictures are some what blurry, but I feel that they represent how the system makes me feel better that way. What can I say, I really like my system and I love listening to music. I currently have a little over 1000 records and about 200 cds. This system is by no means complete and is in somewhat of a transition phase. I just graduated from college and, minus the Esoteric, this is the system I compiled then. It was a very budget minded system and was all purchased used. Now that I have net positive income the system is about to jump off the cliff in to the audiophile oblivion. This may have already happened with the purchase of the esoteric which just about doubled the cost of my system. Needless to say, I have big plans for the future of my system.
Here is a little bit about my current system:
Besides the description above, my system is currently located in my apartment in Mobile, Al. I have the room set up in my second bed room with dimensions 12 4wx146dx9h. The biggest improvement I have made so far to the system would have to be the GIK acoustic panels along with proper room setup. Before them I actually did not like the Thiels very much, the highs were too harsh and the bass was not clearly defined, but now all is good and they sound wonderful. Before the Thiels, I actually was running Sonus Faber concertinos, which, although very different from the Thiels, I liked very much, and I actually still have them sitting in the closet. I just cant bring myself to sell them.
I have been debating which type audiophile I want to be, Accurate or Musical, and I have decided I want to be both. I want my system to be musical and emotionally moving but I would like it to do this accurately. I feel the Thiels give me all the accuracy I could ever need and I would like to warm them up a bit, so here are my future plans for the system. I would like to replace the amp and preamp with a Conrad Johnson Premier 350 and a Premier 16. I would also like to upgrade my cartridge and phono-pre to something like a sumiko black bird and an ARC PH3se or possibly a sumiko celebration and an Artemis Labs PL-1.
I love this hobby and I hope you all like my system as much as I do,
Hi, Cadence, Accurate is musical. You are about one million miles ahead of me when I graduated college. Two pieces of advice are room treatment (see Ethan Weiners Real Traps for excellent info) and then Room EQ Wizard (on the Home Theatre Shack). This will get you accurate, musical and powerful music. Enjoy, Bob
Thanks Shadorne, I think you have a very nice sytem as well and I see you are a drummer too.
I have now found that I have three conflicting interests in my audio adventure. The engineer in me wants accurate, the musician in me want's musical, and the drummer in me wants to "Pump it Up!"
