Description

Well, there it is. This is my beloved system that I have been seriously working on this past year. I'm planning on finishing my speakers and purchasing either a NAD T-514 (DVD Player) or a NAD C521-BEE (CD Player), or both lol. I'm also looking into power filtering of the Panamax or Monster Power type. I'll add it, with pictures soon.

Components Toggle details

    • Dover Audio® Reference
Three-way, open baffle loudspeakers. Critical, fun, spacious and cleverly detailed. Still in prototype disguise, until this summer. Price=so far.
    • NAD C320BEE
Integrated stereo amplifier. Soft-clipping, 50WRMSx2 into 8-ohm loads, torroidal transformer, alps knobs and buttons, gold plated connections.
    • Pioneer DV-45A Elite
This thing is amazing for a DVD Player. The mid-range, bass and treble are taut and clean and the player is quick to read and react to commands. The layer change seems to be about one second on poor quality DVDs (purchased ones still), but are very quick with well cut DVDs. I have ordered Eagles-Hotel California DVD-audio or SACD and will comment on it once it comes in.
    • JVC QL-A2
A great direct drive piece from my Dad.
    • NAD PP-2
This little guy draws little power and sounds terrific! It's the reason why I didn't DIY my own phono preamp. A great purchase for anyone with value in mind.
    • Sony Playstation 2
I'm possibly purchasing a NAD T-514 from gramophone (IIRC) for $400. Unless, the Audiocentre in Ottawa will match their price, sorry guys, but for $428 (incl. shipping and tax) it's a killer!
    • Monster Standard® THX-certified
Run from NAD PP-2 to amplifier and from CD-Player to amplifier.
    • Monster Gamelink 300- S-Video
    It's Monster, enough said.
    • Monster Interlink 300
Very nice RCA cables, easy to press onto connectors and a very noticeable difference (a good one) from the Standard THX-certified cables.
    • Monster HTS1000MK.II
    eBay :)
    • Radioshack Mega-Cable Speaker Wire
It's 12 AWG, 99.99% OFC copper. 24kt gold plated interconnects. This will all be Monster in the near future.
    • Monster Standard THX S-Video
Better than my old Acoustic Research.

Boseo,
I always enjoy the privilege of being allowed to glimpse into the private audiophile realms of fellow hobbyists. Thank you for taking the time and making the effort to post your system, and congratulations on achieving happiness with it. Not everyone in this hobby manages to achieve personal satisfaction with theirs.

I'm guessing it's more the cobbled together speakers, japanese electronics, rat's nest of wires and cluttered look of your room that prompted Dan's comments. Ya think.......?

Hey dan,

I'm guessing that it could be the fact that I don't really care about video quality and so, the ~30 year old TV that I'm using may give off a hint of vintage. Hey, can't beat a TV that hasn't cost you a cent since the purchase date. And, who said "products can be made in Japan, China, etc. with equal build quality and dependability"? Shame on them.

Why is it that when I look at this system, I imagine the theme song to Sanford & Son playing on it.

System edited: I have removed the Technics SL-P101 and replaced it with a Pioneer Elite DV-45A. I have added an S-Video cable and upgraded the RCA cables for the Elite as well. To improve the power coming into the system I have added the HTS1000Mk.II power center from Monster. Still waiting for DVD-Audio action ;).
