Goal of this system is to play lots of great music while working. When the wife is gone the volume goes up and thats when im happiest. I think im done upgrading for awhile. ive got some different tubes on order, but thats about it.
Been working with a few different versions of this setup.
first i had Arro's probably my 2nd favorite speaker after the Zu's, then Era D4's and B&W 685 with different amps. IMO none of them came close to the superflys for the music i listen to, so its nice to have finally found a favorite combo and i dont think ill have to upgrade for a while. thanks
You said you swapped in Mullard EL84. How did they sound compare to the stocks? (what is the brand of the stock tube anyway?). I have different amp, Almarro A205 and tempting to buy a pair of Mullard EL84.
I'm sure that the Zu's efficiency pays off, but this thing has an improbable amount of oomph. There's a video online somewhere that shows it driving some big Wilson speakers.
I'm using it with 86db Sonics Animas and they make a big noise with the volume barely turned.
Thanks Pjudice. I actually just swapped in some mullard El84's gonna give those a few months and perhaps check out some other tube options. Love the Zu's
What a great little system. The Zu's seem like a nice pairing for the tiny amp.
I bought a Miniwatt N3 to fill in for a much more expensive tube amp that was in the shop and was very impressed with the music that little thing pumps out. I'm a big fan.
ALO sells a tube upgrade using Create Audio tubes, which took it up a small notch. I've also used the reissue Gold Lions, which sound nice, but I question their reliability. Mine burned out pretty quickly and cost about a third of what I paid for the whole amp.
