Description

My system for daily use at the office. i wanted to so something entirely different from my home system, so i decided to go tube-and-vinyl, even though i feel that digital/solid state is truer to real life. the system is very pleasant to listen to. lush, colored, euphonic, and forgiving. easy to listen to, for sure. not nearly as resolving, dynamic, or detailed as my home system, but it doesn't cost but a tiny fraction of what my home system does. certainly a great way to pass the day at work!

the Michell really sounds for the price. the suspension is SO easy to set up compared to my old linn lp12 and the sound is comparable. (not qute as good as the lp12, though)

the Reson cart is what impresses me the most about the system. it costs 515 and sounds nearly identical to a linn Arkiv, only not quite as resolving. for the price, it's hard to beat.

the Jolida is a great little amp. reasonably priced and fun to play with. plus, the glowing of the tubes is a new sensation for me. it's kinda soothing. between that and the spinning gyro, it's a wonder i don't hypnotize myself. i might need to be careful opening spam emails at work. i might be highly succeptible to suggestion and decide that i do, in fact, want to ivest in penny stocks poised to explode while popping m4le-enh4nc3m3nt p1lls and sending money to H0t n1ger1aN t33n5! hmm . . . .bad idea.

the Rega Aras are the best small speakers for the price i've heard and are exceptionally sensitive to upstream components. i've never heard a cheap pair of speakers that can sound so different with top-flight electronics. they're best close to a wall, but i don't have the luxury in the office, which is why i use the vulcan sub.

Components Toggle details

    • Sony SCD-C555es
    Sony Carousel CD/SACD Player.
    • Michell Engineering Gyro SE MK II
Like a Gyrodec, but with scaled-down platter. beautiful to look at, that's for sure!
    • Rega RB-300
the classic! easy to use, sounds good.
    • Reson Aciore
an interesting beast. designed by DNM and Reson and built by Goldring. Pocan body. Moving Coil. extremely musical.
    • Trigon Vanguard II Phono Preamp
german-made phono pre. MM/MC with tons of loading options. worst-translated manual ever.
    • Jolida JD-302b
50 watts RMS. 75 watts max tube interated amp w/ upgraded caps and rectifiers. my first tube amp. warm, lush forgiving sound with pleasant midrange.
    • Rega Ara
little Rega monitors. simple 2-way design. prefer to be close to wall for bass enhancement, but it's unfortunately impossible in my office. best reasonably-priced monitors i've used and they really reveal upstream components. very musical, clear mids and highs. use rega vulcan sub to augment the lower mids and lows.
    • Rega Vulcan
Rega subwoofer designed by REL. uses Speakon connectors for high-level input. crossed-over where the Aras start to roll-off. small, compact, musical.
    • DNM Single Solid-Core Interconnect
used throughout. i love this stuff.
    • DNM Single Solid-Core Speaker Cable
    great sounding cable.

Hi, doesn't the music bother your co-workers and cause them to want to dance or fall asleep, depending on their taste in music, or do you just play music really quietly?
I wish I could do that in my office without worrying about the music bothering anyone.

I can't believe you have the balls to put a turntable in your office! How cool!

Wow. If I had that in an office, I woud accomplish precisely nothing!

thanks! i tried it both ways and it worked out better the way i have it now. i know it looks funky, but i had a hard time getting a stable image until i flipped 'em. the rega guys said that it would be different in every situation, so they didn't make a left/right.

Please be careful! The speakers on your writing desk are in bad position! Change the right speaker with left.
But what's your job? I think that's lovely!
