Had an opportunity to spend a couple of hours listening to music from this system yesterday, courtesy of Don and his wife. VERY enjoyable time streaming a range of both familiar and new music from Tidal. The sound via the Salk Streamer/Roon was superb; overall, just to the warm side of neutral with good body and great imaging. The Joules are capable of real delicacy and crushing impact when called for ("iron fist in velvet glove"). Don't has put together an enviable system.
Updated system pics. Added GIK Wood Alpha A4 acoustical treatments which replaced standard GIK panels (244, 242, tri trap). Upgraded Metrum Octave DAC to Musette.
It was a pleasure having you over to listen. Always great to have someone over that appreciates the music. Thanks for bringing some of your tunes to share. The Triode Wire Labs power cords I mentioned are due to arrive this week along with a few new CDs I ordered. Looking forward to visiting your place later this week.
Enjoyed several hours of music listening to Don's system this past week. It's obvious Don put a lot of careful thought into assembling it. That effort has resulted in something that sounds as good as it looks...and it looks fantastic. Thanks for sharing, Don.
Don, Thank You for the feedback. They are in my "to be considered" list when I move my system to the basement. This should be in the next 3-4 months. I was seriously considering the Pangeas.
Milpai, I have a total of seven crossover power cords in the system. These replaced Pangea AC9se, and AC14se. A noticeable improvement in basically all aspects. They seem to just let the music come through. Really nice build quality and fast service from Patrick Cullen. The cables are very flexible and easy to route. The Pangea AC9se were very stiff and hard to work with. I think the Crossovers are a great value.
Dan, Please tell us more on the Cullen Cables Crossover Power Cable. I am considering these for future upgrade to power amp as well as CD player. What other power cords did you compare these with? What changes did these make? I also use Herbies products and like them.
Thanks Devilboy. The Ncores mate well with the VS VR4jrs. I would think the Job and the TAP-X would provide a somewhat similar sound as the Wyred Ncore combination. Your system and room look great!
Schubert, Thanks for the compliment on my system. I have tried several other brands of speaker cable but these have worked well for me. The VR4jrs are the only remaining part of my original system. I went to RMAF this year to specifically listen to speakers in the 8k-10k price range. My wife and I both agreed that to get significantly better sound we would need to increase our budget or look to buy used.
