Using 2 ohm taps for the maggies. More than enough power at around 70 watts. Using EH EL34's and NOS Mullards. Sitting on Vibrapods and using Herbies tube dampers on the input tubes

Highly recommended. Especially if you are using a lower power amplifier. Better bass, better resolution, better decay. Superb!
I've tried 3 amplifiers so far, the Wyred for Sound STI 500, 2 Adcom GFA 555 Mk II used as mono's in bridge mode, and the Prima Luna Dialouge 7's. IMHO, the higher wattage amps had slightly more "presence", but at a significant loss in the mid range, treble and especially in the decay. With the Primaluna's and can almost sense the muscles in the singers voice. With the other amp's, there was a voice with little emotion attached.
I think that the magic of the maggies is the mid range and the treble and that by putting high wattage SS amps we maybe trying to make speaker something it is not (chest thumping cone speaker).
Also, the Prima Luna power rating is deceptive. There is review that indicated that the Prima Luna's drove Magnapan's better than Rouge 150 watt mono's. This is most likely due to the dual output transformers on the PL's that allow 2, 4, and 8 ohm taps.
Thanks for the recommendation. I'll do a little research on the EH 6CA7. I've also been considering the SED "Winged C" 6550C. I've heard good things about it. I've moved back to the Prima Luna Kt88's a few times and they were fine until I took the attenuator out of the top end of the maggies, then they got a bit bright so I moved back to the EL34's. The tone is just hard to beat.
Korryodell, You have put together a very nice system,it must sound quite good and natural.I find your approach interesting with the 70 watt tube amplifier. I`ve read so often that the maggies really need 300 watts or more of SS power to come alive and really sing. I personally find tube power(in general) amps to be more natural,3D, offer better tone/overtones and more 'realism' than most SS amplifiers. Did you lose any certain performance qualities in going from 500 to 70 watts? Regards,
Very nice system! Have you tried the EH 6ca7? When I replaced my EL34 tubes in my Manley Snappers the sound got bigger, more powerful, and just more of everything over any of the other EL34s I had used. Same nice tone, but a little more excitement. Consider them when you need to replace your EL34s.
I've tried to focus on the best value for performance; from turntable, cartridge, speaker, preamps, and amps. I think with the maggies and primaluna's, i've finally hit something very special. I'm completely captivated.
Very nice system you've put together. I've heard good things about both the Dialogue 7's and the Maggie 3.7's. It would be a nice system to hear. Congratulations.
Thanks for your response. The top end of this system is beautiful. Some might think the primaluna's wouldn't offer enough power, but they handle the maggies just fine.
