My dedicated listening room is 12x19 with 9ft ceilings, insulation in walls, ceilings, and floors for late-night listening. Despite glass doors this makes this room extremely quiet. Very well balanced sound from top to bottom with the REL sub, great sound quality at all listening levels. Clean and open and easy to listen to for hours. PS Audio dac and transport hooked up to my Tidal library has great sound that rivals CD play.
It has been generally accepted that Maggies need a lot of power. No problem with this amplifier! Dynamics and transparency is excellent from top to bottom.
Magnaplanar MG3.7/i
Transparency excellent. Dynamics, bass, imaging all fantastic. Can listen for long periods with zero fatigue. Very balanced sound from top to bottom. Full range performance which competes with the best.
REL Acoustics REL 505
Mates well with the Maggies.
Sonic Wave Impact Acoustics
Spectral clarity and amazing low noise floor.
MG Audio Design speaker cables Planus III speaker cables
Clarity, resolution, and transparency at an affordable price. Great product!
Luxman T-117
Very good sound.
Mye Sound MG3.7i
A necessary upgrade, takes the Maggies to a whole new level (no pun intended).
I now use Audio Nirvana speaker cables and interconnects, you can find a review at Stero Mojo.com very good value for the money I.M.H.O a big step up from Anti cables.I replaced all my power cords with Shunyata Research except the one on my cd player.Replace the standard Rel 505 speaker cable with Signal speaker cable very nice step up. now useing a Apple iMac for computer audio with Nirvana usb cable.
There are camps that believe the vibration is the source of sound degradation,I think my Mye stands solve this problem for my money they are one of the best improvements you can make
If you replace the 3.7 Mye stands with Sound Anchor stands for the Maggies, they will come alive. I've heard several sets of different Maggies (old and new) with the Mye stands and they sound dull and lifeless compared to the way they sound with the Sound Anchors. The Mye stand effect is almost like the non-resonate, slightly dull sound of an overdamped room. I think it's because the way the MYE stands clamp to the speakers thus eliminating some of the ultra fine vibrations that seem to add air and life to Maggies. It seems that Maggies aren't supposed to be rigidly mounted, or Jim Whiney would have built them that way from the start...they need to be free to resonate like a violin. Sound Anchors add a rock solid base for structure and a little height to get them off the floor, but allow the speakers to resonate naturally.
Interesting and nice setup. I was wondering if you could share how faw your Maggies are from the walls and each other. Also your crossover point for your sub. Thanks.
Great combo of gear. Have to agreed that the Sony HD tuner is small in size but way big in sound. Having the MA 6600 hard to justify going for the built in tuner. The Mac gear so musical one can listen for hours and hours with a smile on your face. Your Maggies are a dream. Happy listening.
