i had the tungsrams and yes, the AI M3A does run tubes hard. i found a set of sovteks ran a lot quieter. instead of rolling tubes on that, i changed to my current VTL ultimate with brimar and mullards. world of a difference, at about the same cost on the used market. the dual, stepped attenuators on the AI also drove me insane. the vtl is both quieter and much more revealing.
Nice system indeed. I have the same pre-amp and find that the NOS Tungrsams' work wonders. Have you tried any other tubes with them. I switched from EH and found a significant improvement. Have you tried Bugle Boy, Telefunken, Siemens etc. Also there are claims that the AI pre-amp is rough on tube life. I have my Tungrsam for about 18 months and they sound fine. Any Thoughts? Enjoy.
Very nice system! That orange Lp on your VPI makes a great looking photo indeed!Sounds like your happy with everything, thats great,,im searching for my next speakers,if you have the time could you take a look at my system and in your opinion tell me if it would be worthwhile for me to seek out an audition of Coincident speakers?I heard a pair a while back in an all tube system, very impressive ,but it was only for a few minutes at very low volume! What kinds of music do you listen too?congrads on finishing your analog setup!Regards,Ray
