Angela, it looks like you have the best of both worlds without making too many compromises. I would not even try to combine two systems, as I would not have any idea where to start. I'm with Albert and Tom, FREE THE VINYL!!! I can hear them crying out for some daylight and a spin once in a while. I know what you mean about having to live within your means right now. I hope things get better soon, but it looks like that industry is in for a tough time. Good luck!
Alex, I sold all of my Alpha Core Goertz cables and replaced everything with Roger's cables and I am most pleased. I have decided to not go off the deep end with IC's and cables and ANYONE that has heard my system will tell you that it is warm and detailed - what an oxymoron! And you are right about Roger, what a rare gem - he is all about giving back to the world and we get the benefit of his designs and great prices. I have a feeling that I will be getting more and more into his electronics as I move forward. Ozyfly, the amp stand - well, I just like IT! the Lovan stuff is well made and seems to really take any vibrations into the floor and it looks really nice and again, is reasonably priced. The dealer that I have used for 2 purchases is http://www.soundscapeav.com/ Twl and Albert - I still have two wooden crates of all my albumns from the 70's. One of these days I would LOVE to get back into it. I am just being very cautious right now, I work in high tech in silicon valley and right now is not the time to be "living large". I am hunkered down. But just you wait! and ALBERT, now now.... I am SO sure that you would just STORE that gorgeous tube tuner of mine - it's a beaut, ain't it?!?! -aj Tim, I'll try to get some pics this weekend and update... but as you and I are in our own "private" competition in another area, I may opt to use my time elsewhere. wink wink nudge nudge :) you'll probably beat me - AGAIN! and chac, you make me blush! every girl wants to hear that she has a nice rack!
Angela, you don't want that old antique Macintosh MR71 tuner in that sophisticated system of yours. I'll forward my address and you can ship it to me for storage.
By the way, if you take TWL advice and go for analog, I want to help set it up.
Nice system Angela. Very good mix of stereo and HT components: I hope others are paying attention to those possibilities and the ability to mix and match both cost-effectively and with high quality results.
If it's not too much trouble, could you talk about the amp stands -- what are the key benefits from these in your experience? I'm wondering whether to take the plunge and would appreciate your views. Thanks.
I'm sure you have found it as pleasant dealing with Roger Sanders as I have, even though he doesn't go in for a lot the typical audiophilisms. I don't always agree with him, but he is never less than concerned, forthright, and generous. How have you found his inexpensive cables, and have you considered trying out his electronics too?
Angela, nice system. No chauvinistic remarks here. Of course, like I always do, I would implore you to take the plunge into vinyl. I have never heard anyone who was sorry that they did. There is so much more sound waiting there. There really is. Your system will open up like never before. Just ask Bwhite, or Ethannn, or Outlier. They all have had very expensive CD players and have just moved into vinyl recently. They'll tell you that there is no contest. It's a whole new world.
Thanks, Tim - I just need TIME.... I am working on it... I just wanted to go ahead and post it since I was replying the "there are no women audiophiles here" thread. I felt it gave me a little credibility. I owe more pictures... soon, my friend, soon -aj
Angela you need to get a picture of your whole room, I bet with a women's touch you can make all of that gear in one room look great! Unlike us clunky guys we just put stuff every where with out thinking about how it looks :)
