Description

This is a system I have accumulated over the last year having changed from an audio research based system which I enjoyed for many years to an art audio based system the focus point of which is the diavolo amp. I replaced my hales speakers with the Tetra 506 lmtd these speakers were the ones reviewed in the online magazine tone and took this system to another level. At this point I listen primarily to vinyl and at some point will probably upgrade my tt. Any advice or input is certainly welcome!

Nice system Peterc. I see you are using Nordost Red Dawn Rev 2 cabling, I too use these and think they are excellent cables...VERY quick and resolving with
tremendous ability to portray inner detail. I think your choice of ART Audio is a good one too.

I love my Tetra's but at over $11,000.00 new overpriced in my opinion. These were purchased from Jeff Dorgay of Tone
Audio magazine through echo audio in portland as demos.I love there efficiency and tight base, dynamics and live sound. The art audio amp really made a significant difference!

How do you like the Tetras? I feel that they are vastly under rated. I believe Adrian Butts of Tetra went to near 100% manufacturer sales recently, which means maybe fewer people know about his line. It might be a good move for him, but it furthers the obscurity of the speakers. I have the 205's, which work in my very small room. Of course, they need a sub. How do you feel yours compare to other similarly priced speakers?

Peterc: You may thing that no one has heard of Tetra loudspeakers, but one jazz great has....I saw an interview with Herbie Hancock this morning on CBS and I could see his
Tetra 506's behind him as he was being interviewed.

Herbie knows good sound. Herbie knows how to make good sound too.

I bet they sound great in your listening room.

System edited: decided to change speakers after over 21 years and also redbook cd playback. the tetras sound great although no one has heard of them it seems. these belonged to the publisher of tone mag. a internet audio magazine. oh they look cool too!

I also have Hales 5 and SLF-2 + ARC130 and Krell KRC-HR + Krell 300S for almost past 5 years. I noticed the Mid-Range cover can be take it out to make the speaker much more open and undisrupt. The cover can be easy take out. Just using a eye glass type screw driver to pope it out. Once you pope it out you can put it back in.

System edited: adding the Ack Dack just transformed my digital playback..much more detailed and analogue sounding. What a revelation!!Highly cost effective improvement.

I am a confessed dipole fanatic so I have a weak spot for Magnepans. Maggie 3.6R (even the 1.6QR, but it sounds like you are aiming higher than that!) would be a classic match for your ARC front end (ARC and Magnepan were joined at the hip at birth). Maggies are not particularly famed for their dynamics but the latest generation are said to be improved in that regard. The Vandersteen 2WQ subwoofer (2 are said to be better still!) mates well with the Maggies for even better dynamics. I find that Von Schweikerts image in a far more forward fashion(in your face, basically) while Maggies, like most planars, image from the speaker back towards the front wall and beyond. Depends on what you like.

What are the room dimensions?

For speakers give the Von Schweikert VR2s a listen. They have the same clarity and detail of electrostatics or planars and retain the dynamics and impact of cones. Nice system!

nice set-up. i'd like to recomend two things; lift those cables up off of the floor and if you are listening late at night, try a digestif instead. happy listening.q
