I was wondering if anyone had any suggestion which would improve the sound of this system even more. I have tweaked it for a while, but a few cheap little upgrades can never hurt.
Try isolating your electronics with some BDR (Black Diamond Racing) cones or the like. BDRs come in MkIII (slightly on the warm side of neutral) or Mk IV (neutral) versions. On the net for about $40 for 3 cones. I have them under all of my electronic components including my loudspeakers. They clarify the music quite well. Have fun.
My fault, not paying attention again. . . It looks like you've got things pretty well covered. There's always bigger, for example going to 803s or 802s (I had 802s for a bit and loved them). Or more power - I used a Levinson 333 with the 802s and it was great. I could definately keep what you have and be plenty happy though. Danish
Actually the I-5 is an integrated, so I have a preamp. Thanks though. Also I have the speakers bi-wired with the Hologram, it is a very good cable with excellent palpability and a great sense of air in the huge soundstage which it produces.
Eventually, I'd get a preamp - my dorm system was Thiel 2.3, Sonic Frontiers Line 2, SFCD-1, ARC D130, and a Basis 1400 turntable. Before I got the SFCD-1, I almost bought a CL-15 - I tried it direct to my amp and also through my preamp. I thought the preamp did some good things to the sound, smoothed it out a bit. Maybe you can demo one from a dealer and see what happens.
Third best dorm system i know of. Thats one hell of an improvement over the last month.... Now about those merlins.... Just kiddin. I'd say your system is more or less done. Its very complete with everything very well balanced. BTW what is your oppinion of the hologram? Do you have them bi wired? I might get a pair, when i can afford it (next year if im lucky!!!) - Ian I'll release my improved dorm system in about two months. It might surprise you...
