I did not have a chance to compare to the 3 way Magnepan 3 series in my home yet, but so far the bass is so super punchy and rock solid compare to the old 2.6r with regular x-over, and more well better than the old 2.7, 1.6 and new 1.7. The true ribbon is more sweet and smooth compare to the QR ribbon on the 1.6 and 1.7 series.
Amthanh, this looks like a lovely, well thought out system and room. Tasteful, unencumbered and I'll bet sounds great! You seem to have applied creativity and sensibility in how you treated the head wall with the curtain; good job.
I'm guessing you also love the variety afforded with owning two different technologies in speakers. I find it far more stimulating than trying to settle on one technology/brand, as this can never deliver the wide variety of experiences which multiple speakers can. Whenever the experience gets a bit stale I switch out the speakers and - wala! An entirely new experience again! As one adds music to the collection it's always a fresh experience to hear it on the other speakers.
If at some point you get "itchy" to try new things, consider comparing some same brand sets of cables. You might be shocked at how much this will influence a system. I would encourage you to compare sets of different brands, not merely different lines within one brand.
I was lucky as my wife has helped me to set up the whole basement for my hobbies. She put up the curtain and on the process to re-paint to dim the room down with warmer color this summer. It's my escape room after a long day of work :-)
Your gear is great too, especially the reel to reel tape.
Nice, very nice. Great to have two sets of speakers to change up too every now and them. Great gear and and what looks like a nice place too escape to the music in.
