The design of this Star Wars themed home theater started well before ground broke on this 4500 sq. ft. home. An extra amount of earth was removed to achieve the desired depth of 14'. The completed room is quite large at 23' wide x 35' long comfortably seating 12 in full leather theater chairs. The 126" / 2.35:1 Da-Lite screen also includes motorized masking for 16:9 viewing. To achieve near plasma tv levels of brightness, a Runco VX22i with autoscope and anamorphic lens was installed displaying a perfect 1080p image on the huge screen. All of the pictures on the side walls and in the entry way were hand painted on canvas by a long time friend of the home owners. The (3) Krell 450M's and dual Velodyne 18" subwoofers sit behind the screen wall.
The next phase will be to upgrade the front main speakers to Aerial 20T's or Focal Scala's for higher 2 channel performance and replace the Velodyne's with 2 JL Audio Gothams!
I am curious how your design ultimately worked out and what equipment you finalized on. Some of the components in yours I have, too.
My system is composed of a Runco VX22d, Stewart Cinema Curve, Revel Ultima 7.2 speakers (two Studios, 1 Voice, 4 Embraces and 2 Sub-30s) plus two Velodyne MiniVee 10s as rear-sourced reinforcement of the bass, Krell amplifiers (FPB 200C, KAV-250a and KAV-250a/3), Theta Digital Casablanca IV preamp/processor, Oppo 103 player and a mix of Transparent Audio and Kimber Kable cables.
With the utilization of the Dirac equalization software in the Casablanca, I have reached the level of performance for which I have always aspired -- simply superior to what can be provided at any commercial theater by a wide margin.
While I could "upgrade" to Atmos, etc., frankly I don't see where the substantial incremental expense of tearing apart walls and ceilings would provide commensurate improvement in sound quality. As for the video, at some point I suppose I'll employ 4K, though that is an expense which cost makes me shudder.
dude im never someone to comment on other peoples stuff but I had to because Im in utter amazement from your theater room, absolutely amazing. Very well done
Wow what a room! I'm still salivating just looking at it. I love the touches you made all around and the attention to detail. All I can hear now in my head is Vader's theme.
Do you think you could have a custom movie chair made to look like the Emperor's throne from RotJ? Also I remember the lightsaber remotes from Brookstone or Sharper Image that were based off the hilt from Luke's saber in RotJ that would go great as well with the chair.
Again phenomenal job all around. I guess if I hit the Mega millions tonight I'm going to have to contact J Paul's Design to make me a HT theater based on one of the Rebel bases. ;)
