Description

Room dimensions are 6,50 meters long, 5 meters wide (the wall where the system is). It's actually a double room, there's the same size behind the camera so it's actually a total room length of 13 meters with a partial wall between the two room parts. Listening position is about 3 Meters distance from the speakers.

The next step will be building a (better) rack. :) I'll plan to make a sand filled beech wood construction ...

And i'll put some more fillings into the speaker cabinets - due to the two woofers and the cabinet construction there's a peak around 450 Hz that should get reduced a bit ...

Ah, and the DSP will be replaced by a EV or Dynacord - i currently use the Behringer DCX2496 which is just too noisy with the > 110 dB drivers.

And kudos to my friend who has built the speakers (i just did the finish and the listening and some experimentation)!

    • Musical Fidelity HT-600
Very nice sounding. I use it for stereo only (currently for the HF Horns only).

System edited: The Granite Plates arrived (Nero Assoluto, 4 cm / 1,5 inch, 20 kilo each). I have placed one plate underneath the CDP w/Spikes and one plate on top of it as recommended by Swoboda Audio Modification. See the 5th system picture. The sound seems to be more detailed and three dimensional - at least to my ears. :)

System edited: Added some new pictures. The main changes are the sub bass cabinets (2 x 15") and the changed rack / gear. And i also replaced the Reson NF cables with Kimber Timbre Cable which sounds - imho - more musical. I'll add some more pictures soon. Next week i'll get two granite stone plates to use for the CDP dampening. This summer i'll build some new cabinets for the sub bass drivers - onken style cabinets that will be placed into the corners behind the satelite speakers. One advantage of this: the gear will no longer stand on top of the sub bass.

Sorry for the late answer, i haven't been logged in for a while. Netherland is not very far from my place, Kuzibri. I'm from Germany - very, very close to Luxemburg and pretty close to the Netherlands too. :)

I have a sub bass now (4 x 15"). I'll post some details and picts in the next days. And i removed the rack - i needed the place for the sub. So the gear stands on top of the sub currently. I did some tweaking to reduce/eleminate unwanted vibrations - not yet finished though. Ah and i no longer use the DA converter because since christmas the CD itself is now tuned by Swoboda with his latest DA and transport tuning. A very very nice sounding CDP now.

The Campaniles create a live-like sound/stage and are very involving. They are just awesome!! If you want to hear them, you will have to travel very far!! The system is located in the Netherlands, but you're welcome!

Thanks for your comments! Kuzibri, the horns sound wonderfull. The stage is very transparent, highs are brilliant - there's nothing i miss. I'd like to hear your campanile - how do they sound?

Mthieme, the horns are purchased. They cost between 250 and 500 US $ / pair - depending on the material (alu, fiber ...). 53 cm wide; 2". If your interested, drop me an email.

Very nice, are the horns diy or were they purchased? I'm looking to put together a similar system but have not found round horns I can afford for 2" drivers.

System edited: Just added my new vintage Kenwood Tuner KT-1100. I only listen one channel here in germany (SR2) - Jazz and Classics. The tuner is perfect for this kind of music. Great sound! I'll add some pictures as soon as there's some sun here. :)

That is beautiful!

System edited: Added pictures from the new speakers: They are also DIY - similar type like the last speakers but with an aditional 12" LF/MF speaker above the horn (now 175 cm height). Due to this d'Appolito style and due to a much better crossover setup the stage is much wider, clearer ... The lowest 12" just does the sub frequencies below 100 Hz. The above two 12" work parallel for LF and MF. Also changed: i replaced the Behringer digital crossover DCX2496 by two EV DX34. As a result the noise is greatly reduced now! Don't know what else to change ... :)

El34eh, the picture is actually a framed coal drawing done by a good friend. She's a french interior designer / architect and living with her husband in the french alps. I have a second drawing done by her. Both drawings are done with coal on paper and showing some pieces of wood. It's a bit chinese style - no surprise because she has been living in Hong Kong for a few years - so her arts have some asian influence. The dimensions of the drawings are around 120 x 82 cm. I posted a detail picture for you.

Your speaker-work is outstanding! I wish I could bring my homemade 12b4 amplifier (1.5 watts) over to hear it on them!!!!! Keep up the great work - and consider going into business for yourself! An AFFORDABLE horn is what is in demand now!

Sincerely
