Description

This started as a modest system using all Yamaha electronics and a pair of Magnepan MMG speakers.

I liked the Magnepan MMG's so much I sent them back and moved to the Magnepan MG12's.

The Yamaha gear has been rotated out and I now have an all Classe Delta system running the Maggies.

After purchasing the Classe CA-2200 amplifier, I feel I am finally off the electronics merry-go-round.

The Delta gear is fantastic. The ergonomics are second to none as features can be added or modified via a software download. Couldn't ask for more in a Preamp/Amp/CD player combination.

Room treatments have made an incredible difference in the sound of this system.

The room is small (11' x 13'), but this system performs well in this small space.

    • Magnepan MG 12
The MG12 is the choice of audiophiles getting started in "high end" audio, with good clean bass and a top end that has the resolving power to show off the differences between different grades of electronics. The MG12 is a perfect example of how yesterday's high-end concepts have evolved to benefit mid-priced products. Ribbon tweeters from the past would have cost more than the entire MG12. The MG12 is a 2-way system with 369 square inches of thin-film planar bass and a 38-inch long, line source quasi ribbon tweeter. Large wave launch, low surface loudness, etc. are unique to planar speakers. The physics require the size and shape of a Magneplanar. Like other Magneplanars, MG12 offers superior sound because of its size and shape. Thousands of audiophiles have fallen in love with the sound of planar speakers. The MG12 offers quasi-ribbon technology and planar bass resolution at a price that some audiophiles spend for speaker cables. Musical value is what Magneplanars are all about. Fall in love today!

Hi Swredman,

Bet your system really makes wonderful music. I just have one suggestion, put your Maggies on MyeSound stands. Grant's stands will take your speakers to a much higher level. Take a look here on the GON for details of what they did for my MG-20's.

What is the sound treatment you are using in the picture and what is the change you hear as a result?

How do you manage to get your system to perform well in a 11'x13' room? How far apart are the speakers. How far from the back and side walls are they? How far from the speakers is the sweet spot? I'm asking because I never thought I could set up my system in such a small room. Is it the room treatments that makes it work?

Are you still using Classe and are you still happy with them?

System edited: Since last updated, I have installed the CA-2200 amplifier and moved the preamp/CDP rack off to the side of the room. Have balanced Canare IC's running from the pre to the 2200.
