System edited: Finally found a Thor DC-1000 DAC to compliment the rest of my Thor Audio gear. Now to do some tweaking of my interconnects and speaker cables.
I too am using the Thor TPA30,T1000,Kharma 1.0 combo with a Meridian 508/24 player. To me Thor,Kharma match is wonderful. Some of the tube changes in the Thors' i've tried and am using to date ( tried many combos ).I have replaced ( T1000 ) the 12at7 with a Amperex B/boy or (Telefunken ) and used the Svetlana stock 12ax7. Nice combo. The Amperex B/boy is a touch warmer than the Tele, but has a punchier bass. I haven't done too much with the TPA 30 only change the stock 12at7 to a Telefunken ECC801s,which works very well ( great tube ). Hope these tips may help!
Aolrsw, I've liked the tubes it came with so much, I haven't felt a need to try rolling yet...seems they do a good job choosing tubes in all their gear...Zig
I have been very impressed with the Thor gear. The amps drive the Kharma's with ease, even providing very tight and deep bass response. When I switched to tube gear I thought I would gain the famous midrange of tubes but there would be a loss at the upper and lower frequencies. However, that is not the case. The preamp puts up one heck of a soundstage, even though my room has its limitations. If I could afford it, I would add the Thor DAC and Thor Phono Preamplifier. I plan on keeping this gear a long time.
I'm in Evergreen,Co. I bought my speakers through Audiogon before I ever heard them. I based my decision on reviews. Probably not the safest way to buy speakers but I am very happy with them. I don't think I could find a speaker that I would prefer to these in their price range. I later found out that Colorado Sound Design in Elizabeth, CO. sold them.
Where in the Rocky Mountain area are you? I'm in the Denver metro area. Also where did you audition you Kharma's? Is there a local dealer? I would really like to give those speakers a listen.
