With better positioning, a better source, this has the potential of being a killer system. Tannoys Monitor Golds, and triode wired ultra-rare KT66 monoblocs, mmmmm, heavenly!
My very first system was a pair of Polk 5+ Jr's(or something like that)that I had positioned upon two 6.5ft cabinets with the top of the Polks about five inches from the ceiling. The speaker postion was set-up willy-nilly with one speaker pointing to 7 o'clock and the other at 4. I thought I was happy...
The best I ever heard my Tannoys was about 8' off the ground, 25' apart, approx 30'x50' room, absolutely stunning! Unfortunately for me, I have to make do with what I have.
Surely you must understand that this system is for casual listening only. There can be no imaging or soundstage to speak of. And tonal balance will surely suffer with the speakers on the floor and against the walls. But if Bolly likes it that all that matters.
Just yestserday I did some rolling in my Counterpoint, both Mullard CV2493, and Philips E88CC are so much better than the JAN Philips 6922 that was in there!
Thanks Musicdoc!! My 2130 was realigned a year and a half ago, my ehomes had some resistors and caps replaced last fall, the rest of it is pretty well ran as found. To me it sounds excellent! I do use Technics SL-P500, and do have SL-P1200(needs work), but sadly I only own 5 or 6 CD's! :(
