Description

My goal with this system is not "The Absolute Sound" but "The Delicious Sound". I've learned over the years that whenever my system moves away from analytical and accurate and becomes warmer and more forgiving I end up listening to a LOT more music.

Some may find the combination of McIntosh sources + Shindo amplification + Tannoy speakers to be way too much "warmth", but for me it's just right!

Break those doors down, McIntosh out of the closet, can do no better. Totally agree with you in wanting a system that makes you want to listen more and more. Sweet system.

Very nice review! I have the Montille myself, and have always lusted after the Cortese and Sandringhams also. Just curious, how wide apart are the speakers? they seem very close in the picture?

What's the difference sound-wise with the set-up as-is and with the closet door removed? Have you thought of relocating the guitar(looks like a Macferri which my Turner Compass Rose is based on)?

As1963,
I like your priority of appreciating music`s beauty above the usual hifi dogma(it seems)of sound before music itself. I imagine your system provides a strong emotional connection.

System edited: Added a Shindo Cortese - what an amazingly musical amp. I am keeping the Montille because it's just too cool and nice sounding, but the Cortese is in another league. Look for my upcoming review of it.

As1963 - Very nice system. I couldn't agree more with what you say about working around the limitations of the room. With a 12' x 13' x 9' I know what you mean. You can get good sound in a small room if you choose wisely.
Enjoy!

Thank you for the nice comments. Yes, the room is small (11'x14'x9'), but it's all mine and dedicated to music and reading. My challenge was to work around the limitation of the room and make the best of it. Based on how much time I spend in it, I think I've succeeded :-).

The choice of the Tannoy speakers was critical since their concentric speakers allow for near-field listening.

I also invested in room treatment and dedicated lines.

Very nice, neat, system you've put together. Shindos with the Tannoys must be a great match. Tannoys, since I put a project pair of ca 1975 HPD 315's (12" Dual Concentrics) together, has gotten me the most enjoyable sounds I've had at home. I know you must be in the same position, with your Shindo/Tannoy system. Congratulations.

Dan

Very nice "old school", thoughtful system made up of wonderful components. Looking at your photos a bigger room would bring out it's potential.

"What are you using for transport?"

I have 3 digital transports plugged into the MDA1000:

McIntosh MCD201, Sonos and Wadia i170.

The MDA1000 makes all of them sound great.

What are you using for a transport?
