This is my feeble attempt at building a bargin, "mid-hi" system. Most of the parts are used from EB??, here, CL & GW. Took the leap into higher end upgrades to my headphones, as thats my main listening style.
System edited: Made the jump into higher performance pieces, mostly for digital sources. Next will be analog upgrade replacing the Rega P1 with a Rega p3 24.
Bob - Don't recall whether I thanked you for your reply to my question. If I go to a low output MC, the Goldring will be on the short list. What I've read about tonal characteristics seems to be what I like. Plus, Kevin Barrett at KAB Electro Acoustics carries them which I take to mean they'll work with the Technics TT I have.
Can't give a full analysis of the questions you asked, as I'm NOT an educated audiophile & this was my first low impedence cart. I can tell you that I'm very happy with the sound, great seperation & soundstage. I replaced a Benz Micro HO, which I wasn't very happy with. I don't think there's anything wrong with the cart, it's just ill suited for the P1, I couldn't get the proper overhang & had some inner mistracking. The Goldring, on the other hand, tracks very precisely @ 1.75Gms. Hope this helps, and thanks for the comments.
Hi - Seems like you've put together some nice pieces. I'm curious about your LO Goldring Eroica - in particular because of it's Geiger line contact stylus. Are you able to offer any comments about tonality, coloration (or lack of)etc. Which Benz Micro did it replace? Grew up in NJ myself (Bridgewater), though in PA now. Thanks.
System edited: Replaced the Benz Micro HO with the Goldring Eroica LO. Tracks better on the P1 & the low impedience matches better to the preamp's phono stage.
