Have been searching Agon/Craigslist for audio bargains and this is the result. DacMagic handles PS3 and MacBook, perhaps I shall invest in better speaker cables as well.
Very nice system; $$$ well spent! You don't mention what sources you are using (CD, MP3, etc.). I have found that the DacMagic is pretty good at improving the sound of lower bitrate source material although perhaps that is not unusual for external DACs. I suspect that the Profils would benefit from some extra distance from the side and back walls but, as we all know, what is best for audio reproduction is not always what fits in our living space.
I think the Aragon amp and pre sound great. I picked them up basically because they were cheap and I was considering putting them up for sale on here but I decided to try them in place of my Cambridge Audio 840a and I thought they sounded better overall with my JM Lab speakers. Both pieces are built like tanks and while I miss having a remote it's a small sacrifice
System edited: The DacMagic has really brought my music to life. There are no doubt better D/A converters out there, but for the $250 I paid I am suitably impressed, much better than the analog out of my laptop, and PS3 via HDMI to Sony Bravia then analog out to my Aragon Preamp that I was running before. Mutch lower noise floor, better dynamics, the bass especially is so much more taut and defined!
The Aragon pieces and the MIT interconnects (3 pair) came with a NAD Tuner for $400 total, and I sold the tuner for $65, so I have $335 in to my amp and preamp, a $50 power cable for the 2004, and believe it or not, I found my Profil 77's for $120. This is the least expensive system that I've ever run, but sounds the best. I will be adding a budget DAC soon which I think will take it to the next level, and I also want to ditch my Monster speaker cables for another brand.
Love it! This really captures what is possible with a small budget and research. High end sound for low end price. Nicely done, wish I could come over to listen.
