System edited: here is the new set-up so far. i've addded my int. amp, which i love, and my quantum conditioner, which i love also. next is fine tuning cabling and tweeks. bdr cones and pucks, z sleeves, moon audio T-14 biwire, vh pulsars, vh pc's, absolute pc's, shakti stone, pebbles, are the toys i'm looking to add. how does it sound? the bass is clear and strong. has real punch. the mmites are strong to 50 hz so it is quick feeling too. the highs have a sparkle to them when certain instruments just ring in the air. the midrange is lacking a touch, i think. i feel i can sense the crossover and it has a "clip". soundstage is wide, goes beyond the speakers. imaging is clear and precise, but bot quite as 3 dimensional as i think a system can be. anyway, so far so good! any opinions are certainly welcome. i am also looking at a pair of role kayaks or totem arros. good luck, d.

I just purchased some SignalCable iPod interconnects. I'd say your experience with the volume drop is related to the iPod and/or dock and not the interconnects. I experienced the same thing. Fortunately, my amp can be run with or without negative feedback, and without negative feedback I get a 6dB boost which helps the iPod volume.

hi drew, the sub is very good. it plays notes, not just oompa's(for lack of a better word). it is very restrained yet can certainly SLAM. i've got particularly flat rsponse in my space for some reason so the EQ hasn't been used to its full potential, but certainly has helped in leveling things out to make each bass note clearer. solid build and very attractive finish. i stole it for 400 bucks. tvad, the ipod uses monster ics. when i got them there wasn't any others on the market, there seem to be plenty now. if i play the same cd in the dvdp and the ipod at the same time and switch them in and out on my amp, i get a definite drop in volume level and a touch less clarity with the ipod. i do not know if it is the ipod itself or the ics. i intend on buying some of the "audiophile" grade ics for the ipod and see whats what. i'll post results when i can. new pics of the updated system will be up this week-end. details of sound will accompany...thanks all for your responses, i do enjoy it. d.

What interconnects are you using from your iPod Dock to...?

Real nice. I too appreciate the simplicity in your setup. How do you like the Onix sub. It's intrigued me for quite a while, particularly the adjustable EQ for such a low price. What do you think of it?

Redgum, I have not heard of that company in a good 4 years! I like the simple aspect of your system, I hope you keep that end going, as it will allow you to really hear what the recordings are all about. Nice color walls, what sort of place and city do you live in?

PS: In contrast, I am running with equipment up to my throat, with not much space left in my living quarters!

that is true of the mites. that is why i MUST address the AC, the noise is quite obvious. the SI is only temporary, i have a redgum integrated at the shop being worked on, it was damaged in shipping. the system is "quirky", i am a novice and am working on bringing the overall quality of all the compnents up to a cetain level for referance before switching items in and out to get the sound i like best.

Very interesting and quirky set up. I have heard that the Mites can be very revealing of everything up the chain. A nice upgrade on the Sonic Impact to a modded version with an extremely high quality volume control will take you some audio bliss.
