Description

Budget system I have been living with for a number of years. Added the Rega around 2005, added the Concertinos in April 2008.  Sold the Cary 308 around 2012 (but just removed from this virtual system in Dec 2020)...  I have been happy with the set-up so have not been visiting this site to purchase or sell for years... However, I have the bug to try out some new gear so may be back ; )

System edited: I replaced a Nordost Blue Heaven RCA with a Cardas Neutral Reference between the Cary CD and Rega Mira amp. The Blue Heaven is now in my AV set-up. So far I am very happy with the sonic performance of the Neutral Reference. I have not done any critical comparisons to my other cables.

Hi Ray,
I listen to a wide variety of music (rock (old to new, live, acoustic), R&B, jazz, some classical, some electronica, etc...

I have no complaints with the Kimber Kable 8TC. It's a cable I have had for several years and probably the last cable I would consider upgrading. To me it leans ever so slightly to the warm, dark side of the spectrum. An area I am happy to be in (but not how I would classify much of my equiptment).

For PC... I have only tested the 3 three that I currently own... But the Zu cable and Xindak are clearly better than stock. The bass and treble in particular sound better with these cables in place. The dedicated audio cable is the oldest one I have and not in the league of the Zu or Xindak. My only complaint with the Xindak is that it is very stiff, so I had trouble fitting it into my system.

The Discovery NOS I also like... However, after a break-in period, I compared the Discovery to my Blue Heaven's and preferred the Blue Heaven's for duty between the integrated amp and CD player... The Blue Heaven, if I recall correctly, just sounded a little more detailed and open. The Discovery I thought performed better from the integrated amp pre-amp out to the subwoofer amp. The bass sounded slightly deeper and fuller compared to the Blue Heaven and DH labs silver sonic. It may be interesting to compare the Discovery with the Blue heaven again since the break in period may not have been long enough initially.
