This system sounds just great. Finished the amps a week ago, and they sound FANTASTIC. Pretty heavy mods going on, which makes it very, very smooth. TJ meshies are absolutely fantastic as well. I'm using the Plinius as a pre-amp for now until I get my Consonance T-1 pre-amp finished. It's going to be ultra-modded as well, so it should sound good (god-willing). Next upgrade is DEFINITELY some good, high sensitivity speakers. Looking at Triangle, Meadowlark, and various DIY routes (bottlehead straight eight's, Ed Schilling's the Horn). Suggestions?
Thanks for the comments guys. This system isn't going back to college with me, it's mostly my Dad's. I'll have a Creek 43 (great player!) or Marantz 6000OSE instead of the Ikemi, I'll be using a Consonance T-1 pre, and my dad will go back to using the Plinius as designed...like an integrated amp. The Harmonic Tech's stay home too...I'll be using AudioQuest Indigo+ dual run bi-wires. And Sean, I'm using the straight 89259 right now, but as soon as I get the $$$ I'm going to make a pair of the twisted 89259/89248 combo's to get rid of the completely weirdo Homegrown Silver Lace I'm using right now to connect my sub (which I left out of the system...B&W ASW 1000). It's great having a dad in the audio game...everytime he upgrades, I'll buy the old gear off him cheap. I live in a frat house, so I've also got a Rotel 985BX integrated for when I need to bring the system downstairs for a party. Pretty good party tunes, I can tell you. Cheers!
WOW... Pretty nice system for a "student". Can't wait to see what you end up with once you have a "big" budget : ) Which Risch interconnects are you using ? The straight 89259, twisted pair of 89259 cores, the twisted pair 89259 / 89248 combo, etc ???? Shielded or unshielded ??? Sean >
I am not sure how the B&W 803's sound, but this system looks great! I wish I had this sort of setup in college. Good luck on your quest for sensitive speakers!
