I will be moving the rack from it's present location soon. I have to get a longer cable run to do it, but thanks for that tip - didn't know that could be an issue. Cheers.

I would not put the system ahead of the speakers. Sound vibrations can and will adversly affect the sound

Get a used Mac Mini for $250 and dac of your choice.

Linnie01 has pretty good advice, but I would use a computer with one of the many good players that are available now. Amarra and Pure Sound have been out for a while, but it seems like a new one comes out every day. Go to computeraudiophile.com and you can research what's available.

I'm using Amarra Junior for 16 bit and Decibel for 24 bit files with a Wavelength Proton DAC and it's pretty nice - not to mention it's awfully convenient.

I say forget CD player.

Go iPod with lossloss files and a DAC.
