Description

It as taken me a few years to get this together. I am very happy with the sound right now. I listen to vinyl most of the time, sometimes CDs and sound files (via macbook toslink output).

In the near future I plan on adding a Cambridge 640P Phono Preamp so I can stop using the phono stage on my MX119 (although it does sound pretty good)

I also might add the Cambridge DAC Magic, I've heard great things about it and it will allow me to stop using the onboard DAC on my MX119.

In the longer term I may add new speakers. Possibly PSB Synchrony 2 or PSB Imagine. However I am VERY happy with my Monitor Audio Speakers at the moment.

    • Monitor Audio Silver RS6
    “The flawless and exceptional Silver RS6 gave me more listening pleasure than any other loudspeaker I have reviewed for Stereophile. In my more than 20 years of reviewing, I have not reviewed and audio component that produced greater sound quality per dollar than Monitor Audio’s Silver RS6.” - Robert J. Reina, Stereophile Magazine

    The Silver RS6 is perhaps the best value in hifi today. It’s high-performance sound and furniture-grade finish is an unbeatable combination at this price. The RS6 features a 6½-inch C-CAM (Ceramic Coated Aluminum Magnesium) woofer, a 6½-inch C-CAM midrange driver, and a 1-inch C-CAM gold dome tweeter.

    The RS6 woofer and midrange driver incorporate new edge-wound voice coils to provide increased efficiency, output, and power handling. The new voice coils have more copper and heat capacity than conventional voice coils resulting in 90dB efficiency and 120-watt power handling for the RS6. The speaker’s dynamic range is also increased because the ‘start-and-stop’ of the new voice coil more efficiently converts incoming signal into motion.

    The RS6’s 2½-way design is optimized by an integral structure of dedicated driver chambers providing increased bass extension while maintaining high overall efficiency.

    Other RS6 features include:

    * Woofer and midrange driver chassis made of a non-magnetic, glass-infused cast polymer to damp unwanted resonance.
    * New bi-wire ‘ready’ gold-plated cable terminals.
    * Rigid MDF plinth for stability, including adjustable feet and a choice of spikes or rubber pads.
    * Smooth, contoured cabinet edges and select premium quality finishes on all surfaces give the Silver range an unrivaled appearance at this price level. All Silver models are available in Rosenut, Walnut, Cherry, or Black Oak ‘matched’ wood veneers. Our matched pairs use wood sheets cut from the same log section to assure color and grain consistency.

    Use the RS6s in stereo pairs in high-performance music systems or build a Silver home theater with the RSLCR center channel, RSFX surrounds, and the RSW12 powered subwoofer.

Very nice system. I can vouch for the PSB's if you want to go that way. Great quality. I've owned a pair of PSB Stratus (2 way floor standers) for twenty years. They still sound absolutly great when I have them in my Mc system. Great bass from a 36" column speaker and can play loud if you want. I've owned several pairs of speakers during that time (dynamic and planar) but could never sell the PSB's. Listen every day.

energizer

I'm also using Monitor Audio RS-6 speakers with my McIntosh C42/MC252 gear. Incredible bass for this small of a speaker. I also use a Von Schweikert VR-S/1 subwoofer to enhance the very lowest bass.
Nice system. Enjoy!!!
