Description

An extremely powerful 2 way monitor based system driven by 100W of pure class A authority.

Sound is direct and powerful. Definitely on the analytical side.

Tight base extends far beyond what one would expect from a sealed 5.5" driver based monitor.

This system is a true keeper; better be as it took me over a year of soldering and fabrication.

Stands as a nice counter point to my First watt, Druid based system which is lusher and warmer

Fdawg41, thanks. The Clones were a long labor of love. The PCB's were sourced from a group buy off DIY AUdio a couple of years ago. If you are serious on building them post a wanted on the DIYAUdio forum and i am sure someone has a spare or two.
I put together a blog of the clone build. The blog is:

My email address is on the blog. Check it out and i would be happy to answer and questions you might have.
I really enjoyed building them but be prepared to put in quite a few hours of work. I will try to point you in the right direction for all the parts which were sourced from all over the web to save on production costs and time.

Your KSA clone looks amazing. Very neat and clean. I noticed your PCBs look pre-fabbed. That is, they look manufactured. Are they part of a kit? If so, can you share where you picked them up?

Also, I know I'd be eternally grateful if you had pictures of the build up and maybe a BOM with where you sourced each part.

Very clean setup. Thanks for sharing!

Aaaahhhh...(a look of dawning comprehension on my face...) gotcha, I remember this system!

This will be my first foray into the DIY speaker building process. That is the reason I wanted to purchase a complete kit and build the cabinets myself. After reading up on the idea the value per dollar seems to be there. Zaph says the SR71 to his ears will compete with anything up to $2000 and since the parts from Madisound are $389 I thought this would be a good starting point for my new addiction. At this point I am using a pair of Usher V601 with a Parasound 5125 amp, Marantz SR7200 for my processing only and a Cayin CDT 23 player.

Kevin 30127;
From what i have read on online forums, and from my own experience, there is very little tweaking if any that are necessary for a zaph design. He is a great designer who selects his components very carefully, and always with a strong eye towards value. He will occasionally provide for a resistor or cap value swap out to push the frequency cut out higher or lower to suit your own taste. The other variable is stuffing and i can only recommend letting your ear be the guide. The ZD5 is not a kit offered by Madisound. Is this your first speaker build?

For some reason everyone settles for black or stained oak. I though white would be a nice touch. I am currently building white stands that should hopefully tie it all in together a little bit better.

Thanks for looking

Cool diy system...it's so hard to find decent speakers in white don't you think?

Nice looking system. I am thinking of building the Zaph SR71 stand mount speaker system. I wanted to know if you bought your kit from Madisound and if there was any extra tweaking needed to the speakers or crossover. Do you have any pictures of the speaker build or any tips that could be helpful. Thanks.
